Fr. Bob's Weekly Message

St. John's Family,

As many of you may know, Donald, who has done so much for us here at St. John's in the Mountains, is finding a new church home closer to his home near the upper valley. I am saddened to see him go, as I love his puns (very dad-humor), his can-do attitude, and his willingness to step in to help out in oh so many ways. Thank you so much, Donald! You will be missed!

Some of Donald's ministries include: Audiovisual work (before, during, and after worship) and ringing the bell ten minutes before worship. I think the bell-ministry can fall to our servers, but the audiovisual work is another story. We have added this ministry to the ministry signup sheet (as also found on the front page of our website), but naturally, some training will be required. Heidi and I put together a folder with images to show how to host a livestream with Zoom. If you would like to be trained in this regard, please let me know. It's not as bad as you might think.

Our Fall Fundraising Campaign for our 2027 Budget is in full swing. If you have not yet had an opportunity (because of my oversight or slow mail delivery) to see our fundrasing packet, it can be found on our website, here. There are also more packets downstairs at St. John's building.

As you have read or will read, we are encouraging people to "live" with these until All Saints' Sunday, which is Nov. 1, when we will offer time for reflection, prayer, and to place our pledges to the 2027 budget on the altar.

Speaking of All Saints' Sunday, this is the last week to receive your pictures for our All Saints' celebration. This is a way to honor and remember those who have recently passed away (in the last several years or so). Please email me a picture of your loved one, along with their name. As part of worship on Nov. 1, we will put these pictures up on our screen.

If you are attending worship in person this week, please be sure to stick around after for a reception that will double as the gala opening for Peter Given's Capturing Nature's Best exhibit. The piano-bass duo I am a part of will provide the music.

Finally, if you would like to learn the technology role, or if you would like to contribute to the collection of pictures, but find the technology too difficult, please let me know with a conversation, call, text, email, or any other way you can think of. Thanks for this and all you do.

In Christ's Peace, Bob+

P.S. I also understand another scammer is pretending to be me. Rest assured, I will never ask you for money or gift cards.

Prayers of the People

In peace, we pray to you, Lord God. For all people in their daily life and work;

For our families, friends, and neighbors, and for those who are alone.

For this community, the nation, and the world;

For all who work for justice, freedom, and peace.

We lift before you those who travel this season.

For the just and proper use of your creation;

For the victims of hunger, fear, injustice, and oppression.

We lift before you places of conflict, and the most vulnerable: children and the elderly.

For all who are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble;

For those who minister to the sick, the friendless, and the needy.

We lift before you: Sue, Sharon, Wyatt, Lulu, Chloe, Nicole, Sophie, Lois, Lorrie, Tim, Wayne, Katherine, Dora, Rob, Doug, Keith, Maggie, Scott, Sandy, Bob, Emily, Richard, Barbara, George, Bidi, Nikki, Kendry, Hank, Tana, and Theo.

For the peace and unity of the Church of God;

For all who proclaim the Gospel, and all who seek the Truth.

In our Cycles of Prayer, we remember…

The Anglican Community Partner Church, The Romanian Orthodox Church.

The Diocese of VT’s St. Dunstan's Church, Waitsfield.

St. John’s Ministries of Stewardship.

Ecumenical and Interfaith Partner, Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church.

Lamoille and Washington County Ministry Partner, Lamoille Community House.

For Sarah, Archbishop of Canterbury, Sean, our Presiding Bishop, Shannon, our Bishop, Bob, our priest; and for all bishops and other ministers;

For all who serve God in his Church.

For the special needs and concerns of this congregation.

Hear us, Lord;

For your mercy is great.

We thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life. We will exalt you, O God our King;

And praise your Name for ever and ever.

We pray for all who have died, that they may have a place in your eternal kingdom, and those we name aloud or in our hearts.

Lord, let your loving-kindness be upon them;

Who put their trust in you.

Prayers and Support for Panama

Our Seminarian, James Grace, spends some of his days in Panama. Last week, Panama experienced a magnitude 7.7 earthquake while James was there. Blessedly, James' community was spared much of the devastation, but the community next to his, Hicaco - where many service workers and their families live - was not. James has put us in touch with a team including architects, builders, and community organizers who are rebuilding in the wake of the destruction. If you would like to give toward this rebuilding effort, please make a gift to the Rector's Discretionary Fund, earmarked: Panama Earthquake Relief. Your prayers are likewise requested and most welcome. Thank you.
