Halloween Activities and Safety Advice

The spookiest holiday of the year will take place this coming Monday, Oct. 31. The Lakeway Police Department has some important advice for trick-or-treaters (scroll down). The weekend will also be filled with activities across Central Texas. But, there is a special performance to get you in the Halloween spirit taking place right here in Lakeway:

NOSFERATU PERFORMANCE

The Lake Travis High School Chamber Orchestra will play the score to the 1922 silent film 'Nosferatu' on Saturday, Oct. 29 starting at 7 p.m. at the Lakeway Activity Center (105 Cross Creek). This is the 100-year anniversary of the classic silent film. Popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase. There will also be an opportunity to judge the city staff pumpkin carving contest and a vampire costume contest to participate in, with a chance to win a special prize for those who enter. Tickets are $5 for the performance, and seating is limited. CLICK HERE to purchase your ticket or call (512) 261-1010.

TRICK-OR-TREAT SAFETY ADVICE

While heading out on Halloween, the Lakeway Police Department has some important safety tips to keep in mind when putting your child's costume together:

  • Wear reflective tape.
  • Carry a flashlight or glow sticks.
  • Choose a face paint or makeup whenever possible, instead of masks (which can obstruct a child's vision).
  • Make sure costumes are the right size to prevent trips and falls.

You'll also want to keep these tips in mind when you head out:

  • Cross the street at well-lit corners, and only at proper intersections.
  • Pay attention to your surroundings and make sure your children are clearly visible to oncoming traffic.
  • Always walk on sidewalks, and walk facing traffic as far away from the street as possible.
  • Visit homes and areas you're familiar with, and be sure to inspect candy to make sure it is not tampered with.
