LGBTQIA+ History Month is commemorated during the month of October, celebrating and recognizing the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals have had on history—both locally and globally.

In 2024, OSL's theme for LGBTQIA+ History Month is “Health, History, and Healing: Celebrating LGBTQ+ Milestones”. This theme was designed to highlight the struggles and successes of the LGBTQIA+ community in their pursuit of equal rights, opportunities, and representation in various fields, even in the midst of challenges such as anti-LGBTQ+ policies and other forms of discrimination.

We invite all members of the Baruch Community to join us in celebration of LGBTQIA+ History Month.

Black and Latinx Studies (BLS) is an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary course of study that centers the knowledge productions by people of the African, Caribbean, and Latin American diasporas in the United States and globally. The major builds on a curriculum that respects Black, Indigenous, Latin American and US Latinx peoples as intellectuals, cultural producers and activists. It maintains a scholarly interest in critical questions about race, identity, and justice that offers connections between academic lessons and real-world concerns about racial and social justice.

Requirements for the Major (30 credits)

Required credits for the Bachelor of the Arts degree in Black and Latinx Studies include:

This episode will discuss the non-profit organization Green Latinos, an organization that brings Latine leaders together to address environmental and conservation issues.

Mishkin Gallery is excited to showcase a series of 15 paintings by Anna Ostoya, running from September 13 to December 13, 2024.

These paintings are based on sketches Ostoya created in 2008 of fellow passengers on the J, M, and Z subway lines during her commute between Brooklyn and Manhattan. After remaining untouched for over a decade, the sketches inspired vibrant digital compositions that incorporate motifs from her earlier works, created in collaboration with political philosopher Chantal Mouffe.

For this exhibition, Ostoya transforms these digital pieces into oil paintings on canvas. Instead of merely reproducing the digital images, she approaches the work as if painting a live model or a still life, focusing on conveying depth, flatness, and variations in color and texture.

Primer Cafecito is an event designed to foster meaningful connections among students, staff, faculty, and friends as we launch the new academic year. The event featured a dynamic speed networking format that facilitated new relationships and promoted knowledge-sharing across campus.

We’d like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dean Jessica Lang for her inspiring opening remarks.
