On August 10, I made a decision. The entrepreneurial ride has been real, but it has also wrecked havoc with my routines. My mornings slipped, walks and outdoor time often got skipped, and even meal choices took a hit while constantly on the go. Then came a wake-up call: surgery was scheduled to repair an injury from a fall. I had a choice, go with the quick fix of surgery or do the hard work of letting my body heal itself.
I have always believed the body wants to heal if we give it the right conditions. So I sat down with a notepad and wrote out the essentials: what time I would wake up each day, which supplements to take, when I would commit to a full hour of movement, the choice to eat super clean, and the nighttime wind down routine, including my three-step beauty ritual and lights out at a consistent time. To make it stick, I put it on my desk calendar pad for August, giving myself the daily space to check things off before bed.
When you write down a goal, it hits differently. That little box waiting for a check mark is powerful, it delivers a dopamine hit and pushes you to do the work. Over the 21 days, did I hit 100 percent? Honestly, no. But I came close, about 95 percent. A few mornings I did not wake up at 6, and some nights stretched past 10. Still, the results were undeniable. My digestion reset, the consistent walks and protein smoothies curbed my appetite, my body felt cleansed, and I dropped more than 10 pounds. Not bad for three weeks.
I laughed when I saw an old coach post that the 21 day habit idea had been debunked. Maybe it has. But I believe in the power of getting started, and in the discipline of staying consistent, no matter how many days it takes. For me, these 21 days were a reset. Proof that small, daily choices add up, and that healing is possible when you make it intentional. If you want to change your life, start with one choice today and keep choosing it again tomorrow.
What's something you're still working on, a life hack, a new habit, something that you may need help making stick? Tell me about it! Let's share and learn together.
