Meet the 2023 State Stars
Pictured left to right: State Star in Placement Madison Frogue, Todd Central; State Star Farmer Jeffrey Sprowles, Taylor County; and State Star in Agribusiness, Morgan Shipp, Williamstown Independent.

These three Kentucky FFA members were selected from a very competitive group as the top in the state. Congratulations to Jeffrey, Madison and Morgan for their achievement!
Thank you, Kentucky Farm Bureau, for sponsoring the State Star in Agribusiness and State Star in Placement awards, and Farm Credit MidAmerica for sponsoring the State Star Farmer award.
State Star Farmer
Jeffrey Sprowles, Taylor County
Jeffrey started his SAE in 2019 by growing 5 acres of soybeans and an acre of strawberries. He has grown his operation to include corn and wheat straw as well as soybeans.

In 2022, he sold more than 4400 bales of straw to local customers including Southern States and the local water company. Jeffrey has exchanged labor with his family for use of equipment and has cash-leased farmland. He has learned to make management decisions including variety selection, and scouts his crops regularly to determine the need for pesticide and fungicide applications.

Jeffrey is the son of Scott and Jennifer Sprowles. His FFA advisors are Ryan Williams, Lindsey Wayne and Ryan Hunt.
State Star in Agribusiness
Morgan Shipp, Williamstown Independent
Morgan became co-owner of the Washrack Equine Laundry Service in 2019. In addition to washing and repairing horse blankets for customers, she began waterproofing blankets and horse tack.

The business requires strong communication skills and careful record keeping to ensure customers are billed correctly. A reputation for quality work and good customer service have helped Morgan grow her business over the past 4 years. She continues to look for additional services that she can provide as part of her business.

Morgan is the daughter of Melissa Shipp and the late Michael B. Shipp of Dry Ridge. Her FFA advisor is Katie Elder.
State Star in Placement
 Madison Frogue, Todd Central
Madison’s SAE has involved placement at B&B Farms, where she has worked with cattle, sorghum and hay production.

Madison’s involvement with the cattle operation has involved feeding, herd health, keeping records, and maintaining pastures. She has helped plant, control weeds, harvest, and process sorghum. She has worked with her family in producing smoked country hams and has learned how to operate the cooler and smokehouse, and has also been involved in marketing.

Madison has also been involved with the production of alfalfa, orchard grass, and fescue hay, which has been sold in large and small square bales. She has learned to operate and maintain equipment, manage soil fertility, and make production decisions for the hay operation.

Madison is the daughter of Brian and Beth Frogue. Her advisors are Shayla Berry and Quashawn Quarles.
