The Very Next Moment

"Lord God, before we ask you to take our whole lives into your keeping, just give us enough faith to live with you the very next moment--and then the next, and the next. Before we ask you to build up our confidence in the whole human race, just give us enough courage to trust the next man we meet--and then the next, and the next. Before we ask you to make a complete success in our entire life's work, just help us put our honor into the next task we undertake--and then the next, and the next. Before we ask you to make us popular or esteemed by all men, just help us mirror your way of life the next time someone takes a look at us--and then the next, and the next. Before we ask you to make us complete masters of our fate, just help us handle the next situation we face--and then the next, and the next. Amen."

-Rear Adm. Neil M. Stevenson, US Navy Chaplain Corps, 1983

We Love Your Postcards!

Thank you to all who have sent us postcards sharing where you've seen God this summer!

Send us a postcard or bring one to church to let us know where you've been moved by the spirit so we can share them with each other on the bulletin board in Frampton Fellowship Hall!

SCAPC 101 this Sunday

SCAPC 101 will be held this Sunday, June 7, following 9:30 worship in the Phifer Library. This class is designed as an orientation for new members and visitors interested in joining our church, or for anyone wishing to learn more about SCAPC! We will talk about our basic beliefs as Presbyterians, the history of SCAPC, and how you can get involved in its ministries. Learn more in the meantime by visiting our membership page.

Volunteer with STAIR in July

The STAIR (Start the Adventure in Reading) “Rising Readers” summer reading mini camp for elementary school students will be taking place at STAIR headquarters in the SCAPC Land Building on July 6 through 24. Volunteers are needed each day from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. to lead one student through a book and literacy activities. To sign up, go to the STAIR listing on our community ministry webpage. You may volunteer for as many days as you would like.

SCAPC Member Honored by Associated Church Press

SCAPC member Harriet Riley won an Honorable Mention in the category of Long Format News Story at the 2026 Associated Church Press "Best of the Church Press" awards! Her article, "Chicago pastors confront escalating violence at ICE detention center," was praised for its "strong on-the-ground reporting and firsthand perspectives,” noting that it “captures both conflict and witness" while thoughtfully integrating faith through the convictions and actions of those involved. Read the article at pres-outlook.org/2025/10.

SCAPC Member Awarded JLNO Volunteer of the Year

Our congratulations go out to SCAPC member Catherine Rigby on her recognition as the Junior League of New Orleans' Volunteer of the Year! Among her leadership efforts for many local outreach programs, Catherine has been instrumental in the success of the JLNO Diaper Bank, one of SCAPC's community ministry partners.

Award Presented to Crescent City Café

In April, our community ministry partner Crescent City Café was recognized at the Loyola Social Justice Scholar dinner with a community partner award. Of the café, volunteer Beilul had the following to say, "As a Social Justice Scholar at Loyola, we talk a lot about what it means to build a more just and compassionate community. Crescent City is a place where those values are practiced everyday. The motto 'dining with dignity' is not just something you hear, it’s something you feel the moment you step inside. It shows up in the way people are greeted, in the way meals are shared, and in the respect that is given to every single person. The Crescent City Café is more than a place to volunteer. It’s a true partner in this work, and a community that leaves a lasting impact on everyone who walks through its doors." Congratulations to all at Crescent City Café whose dedication of time and talents have led to this much-deserved honor!

Memorial Service

A memorial service will be held for Joe Poe, the late husband of Beth Poe, on Wednesday, June 10, at 2:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary with visitation from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. in the Bloomfield Room.

Grandparent Camp

Thank you to all who made our 2026 Grandparent Camp such a success! In line with our theme of "Kindness," one of our activities was to produce 80 soup jars for our neighbors at Bridge House, Okra Abbey, and Raintree Children & Family Services. Check out more photos on our Grandparent Camp page or on the bulletin board in Frampton Fellowship Hall!

Ashley's Farewell Celebration

On Sunday, we bid Ashley Brown farewell after three outstanding years of service as our Pastoral Resident in a fun celebration following worship. Ashley was also feted at a "Wigging Out" Goodbye Party last week with the YAF group!
