Dear Friends,
I’m writing to share some personal news, and to do so in the spirit of openness and trust that has long defined Legal Services of Eastern Missouri.
After nearly 45 years at this organization—including 20 years as Executive Director—I’ve decided I will retire at the end of 2027.
I’m announcing this now because Legal Services is strongest when we plan ahead. This extended timeline allows us to conduct a thoughtful, thorough leadership succession process—one that reflects our values and our deep accountability to the communities we serve.
That process will be guided by a search committee made up of representatives from our board, our staff, and our community. The committee will begin meeting in January to vet and select a search firm, and a national search for our next Executive Director will take place in 2027. Throughout the process, we are committed to openness and will share updates as key milestones are reached.
Importantly, I will remain fully engaged in leading Legal Services through the end of 2027. At a time when vulnerable Missourians are facing unprecedented challenges-our work has never been more critical—and I am committed to ensuring continuity, stability, and momentum for our clients, staff, and partners.
Serving this organization has been the honor of my life. I’m incredibly proud of our team of lawyers, social workers, and advocates, and of the holistic, people-first approach that defines our work. We stand firmly in treating people as human beings, not case numbers, and helping them move from crisis toward stability and hope.
Thank you for your trust, your partnership, and your continued support. I look forward to our continuing to work together over these next two years and for your sustained dedication to our mission in the ensuing years to come.
With gratitude,
