REFLECTIONS
DAY 13
God hears and honors you
Psalm 91 is one of the most beloved psalms in the Bible because it offers a strong message of God’s protection, security, and faithfulness for those who trust in Him. It is often called the “Soldier’s Psalm” or the “Psalm of Protection,” and has been quoted for comfort during sickness, danger, and fear.
Verses 14-16 are especially unique because they shift from the psalmist’s voice to God’s direct speech—a divine response to the one who has chosen to dwell in God's presence and love Him wholeheartedly.
Verse 15 is God's personal promise to the one who trusts Him. It is intimate, compassionate, and powerful, showing not only that God is aware of our troubles, but that He is active in helping us through them.
Detailed Breakdown of the Verse:
1. “He will call on me, and I will answer him”
This line reflects a deep relationship between the believer and God. The person who trusts in God is not afraid to call on Him. The Lord promises not to ignore that call, but to listen and respond. This shows that God is personal and attentive—He is not distant or passive, but near and involved.
Spiritual truth: Prayer is not just a ritual; it’s a conversation with a God who is ready and willing to answer.
Encouragement: When you cry out to God, He hears you. He may not always answer the way we expect, but He always answers with love, wisdom, and purpose.
2. “I will be with him in trouble”
God does not promise to shield us from every hardship, but He does promise His presence in the midst of it. This is one of the most comforting parts of the verse. It means that no matter how dark or difficult life gets, you are not alone. God walks through the storm with you.
Example: Think of Daniel in the lion’s den or the three men in the fiery furnace—God didn’t prevent their trouble, but He was with them in it.
Encouragement: We may face pain, loss, or fear, but God is beside us, strengthening and comforting us.
3. “I will deliver him”
God promises not just presence, but deliverance—rescue. This can mean physical rescue from danger, but also emotional or spiritual rescue: peace in anxiety, healing in brokenness, or hope in despair. God's deliverance may be immediate, gradual, or even eternal, but it is always certain for those who trust in Him.
Truth: God's deliverance may not look the way we imagine, but it will always be for our ultimate good and His glory.
4. “And honor him”
This might be the most surprising part of the verse. God not only promises to save and help us—He also promises to honor us. This shows God's delight in those who are faithful. He lifts them up, vindicates them, and gives them dignity and reward. The world may reject or mock those who trust in God, but God honors them as His own.
Encouragement: You are valuable to God. He does not just protect you—He loves to bless and affirm those who remain faithful to Him.
Big Picture Message of Psalm 91:15: This verse is a beautiful promise that speaks to both our present struggles and our eternal security. It reminds us that when we call on God, He listens. When we face trouble, He is with us. When we are in danger, He will deliver us. And when we trust Him through it all, He will honor us.
It’s a deeply personal and relational verse, showing that God's care is not distant or abstract—it is intimate, faithful, and real. This verse invites us to live in daily relationship with God, relying on Him not just when things are easy, but especially in moments of pain and uncertainty.
Psalm 91:15 is God's personal promise of presence, response, rescue, and reward to anyone who sincerely seeks and trusts in Him.
Reflection Question: What does it mean to you personally that God promises to be with you in trouble, and how does that change the way you face difficult situations?
