We are pleased to share that the Department of Housing (DOH), in partnership with Governor Lamont has successfully restored Cold Weather funding to last years amount of $4.5 million, a $1 million increase over what was previously allocated in the budget.
These funds will support communities across the state as they prepare for the colder months ahead, ensuring that critical services – including warming centers, expanded shelter capacity, and outreach efforts – remain available to those who need them most. As we continue to see the numbers of unsheltered homelessness rise, investments in extreme weather are more important than ever to ensure those outside have a place to go when their safety, and lives, are in danger.
We are immensely appreciative for the work done by Commissioner Mosquera-Bruno, DOH, and Governor Lamont to secure these funds and the recognition of the crucial need in the community they address.
Along with the recent $15 million made available for Shelter Capital improvements, this represents a clear commitment to preventing, assisting, and housing those experiencing homelessness in our state.
As always, there is still more work to be done and look forward to continued partnership to ensure Connecticut’s Homeless Response System has the resources needed to meet this moment, and to build a state where all people have the opportunity to live, thrive, and call a place home.
