New Sensory Additions to AV Camp
Hey AV Camp! We are so excited to see you all at camp soon. We know how much you love everything about camp, but we also know that it can be loud and overwhelming at times. We are so excited to be offering some sensory modifications to the camp experience for the first time this summer!
We will have sensory bins placed in various locations around camp, such as the dining hall and pavilion, with items that can help you take a few deep breaths and get some quiet before you go back to having so much fun. We’ll have items like stress balls, pop-its, headphones, weighted blankets, coloring pages and so much more. There will be a staff member overseeing all of these sensory bins and activities to make sure everything is being used safely and appropriately. We will also have a designated space serving as our “sensory room” which can be used by campers and staff under supervision as needed.
We would love your help gathering all of the items needed for our sensory bins and room. Please check out the link to our sensory wishlist, and all other wishlists, if you’d like to donate! Stay tuned for more details, but we’re so excited to be able to offer these sensory options to make the AV camp experience even better for everyone!
*a message from Kh. Sophia Shadid, who is married to Fr. Chris and mama to Luke & Nora. She’s a pediatric occupational therapist with lots of experience with sensory processing challenges. She’ll be involved in implementing these new sensory additions to camp this summer as well as training the staff in how to safely and effectively use them all.
