August 2025

With the summer winding down, the bitter-sweet feeling that comes with approaching endings and new beginnings is upon us. In the rush of picnics, beaches, and road trips, I hope you made some great memories and can look back on time well spent.

At JA, we’re beginning to feel that familiar energy as students across the state start to buzz with nervous anticipation for another eventful school year. With new teachers, new friends and so many new experiences, just one year in a student’s life can prove to be transformational.

We’re excited to be a part of that transformation. All our teams across the state have been gearing up to deliver a new year of immersive educational opportunities, expand access to our unique Experiential Learning Centers, and engage a new generation of young minds with innovative programming and hands-on learning experiences.

We look forward to working together to make a lasting impact on the future of Wisconsin’s students and communities.

Lisa Maahs New Regional Director for JA’s Northcentral Region

Junior Achievement of Wisconsin is excited to welcome Lisa Maahs as the new Regional Director for its Northcentral Region. Lisa will help lead the expansion of strategic initiatives that promote economic empowerment and critical life skills for more than 8,500 K-12 students and young adults across six counties in central and northern Wisconsin.

Lisa brings 13 years of experience to her new role, having first joined the JA as a part-time Elementary Education Manager in 2013. She later transitioned to the role of Events and Satellite Manager, and in 2024, became full-time Associate Director. Associated Bank “All-in” on JA Financial Education

With a $40,000 multi-region grant in July and separate support for JA’s greater Milwaukee area earlier this year, Associated Bank proved it is “all-in” on comprehensive K-12 financial education programs through Junior Achievement of Wisconsin. The Associated Bank donation will support JA’s suite of skills-based learning programs across Wisconsin’s many rural, urban and suburban communities.

“At Associated Bank, we believe financial literacy is a cornerstone of long-term economic stability and success,” said Michael Johnson, Sr. Vice President – Commercial Banking with Associated Bank and Junior Achievement of Wisconsin Board member. “By investing in youth and the communities we serve, we’re helping to build a stronger future and are proud to support Junior Achievement of Wisconsin in their mission to empower the next generation with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive.” Read more.

Wausau’s Christina Kuenstler Receives National Award

Wausau’s Christina Kuenstler, Operations Coordinator for JA’s Northcentral Area, was selected from nominees across the U.S. as winner of the JA USA MVP award at a national leadership conference held last month in Cleveland, OH.

In remarks shared in announcing the award, Chris’ coworkers described her as “the heart of Junior Achievement,” someone who is “truly the glue that holds the team together” and “doesn’t just support the team but elevates it.” JA of Wisconsin Board member, Marla Kolbeck, shared more praise for Chris saying, “Your commitment to equipping our youth with vital knowledge and skills is truly inspiring, and it's clear you are making a significant impact. It's wonderful to see your efforts being acknowledged on a national level.” Way to go, Chris!

“Bet You Didn’t Know” -

Company Match Edition

You may have heard about employer programs that match charitable employee donations, but did you know that some companies will also make donations based on employee volunteer hours? Employer supported volunteering has been shown to improve job satisfaction, even boosting productivity levels. By including employee volunteer hours in the equation, some companies can multiply their impact on important nonprofit causes.

Company support can take the form of a cash donation matching the number of employee volunteer hours or could be a larger sum of money provided once a certain number of volunteer hours is reached. Learn more about your employer’s charitable matching programs with this free online tool.

Your Will —

A Powerful Tool for a Lasting Impact

August is National Make-A-Will Month, a helpful reminder that it’s never too early–or too late– to plan for what matters to you most. A will can be a powerful tool to protect loved ones, ensure final wishes are honored, and provide a lasting impact for causes close to your heart.

According to a 2024 Caring.com Wills Survey, only 24% of U.S. adults have a will in 2025 -- down from 42% in 2017. There’s no better time than now to start thinking about the future and how to create a legacy that reflects your values. That's why during National Make-A-Will Month, we’re offering a free online tool to help you create a legally valid will, so you can take care of the people you love and the causes you care about. Secure your legacy for tomorrow by creating or updating your will today. Many people choose to give from their assets – stocks, gifts from their IRA, cryptocurrency and grants from their Donor-Advised Funds to see even larger tax savings.
