On Tuesday, March 15th, Sowing Opportunities' expert agricultural engineer Federico Arriola Cuéllar and our project manager Ricardo San José Roca will be in Chajmaic to begin our work!
The first step will be to bring materials for greenhouses for the 30 families who have demonstrated leadership in the village. These are made of treated iron, to withstand the persistent drizzle in the region, and extensive energy has gone into finding the lowest costs from the most reliable suppliers.
The second step is to conduct a needs assessment of the participants, to ensure that the crops grown are the ones they most desire.
One member from each of the 30 families will participate in training about greenhouse farming and maintenance.
We have additional information on how this agricultural solution addresses global climate change and dangerous migration due to poverty. Information on project measurements are at this link.
