Good evening! Caitlin with you here today, with some exciting news.

The NCPR Daily has a new look! After months of planning and tweaking, we’ve landed with the version that’s found its way into your inboxes.

You should find that what you love about the NCPR Daily is still here for you — we’re still highlighting the best of NCPR’s stories from around the North Country and a national or global story from NPR each day. Photo of the Day and other favorites like Artwork of the Week are still featured as regularly as ever. But maybe it’s just all a little… fresher! Aside from a brand new look, here are a few of the updates you’ll find:

Weather: Each day we’ll feature the weather forecast for a town in our region. From Cape Vincent to Keeseville, Glens Falls to Potsdam, and everywhere in between, stay tuned for your town to be featured, and to keep up with the weather throughout the rest of the region.

First Up: Check out this new section that leads the day’s report! This is where you’ll find NCPR news director David Sommerstein’s picks for the key North Country news of the day as heard in our Story of the Day podcast. Unless a story is exclusive to the podcast, most days you’ll find links to read David’s picks. And, like before, you’ll find the link to listen to the podcast for the hosted, full audio experience every day.

I’d love to hear what you think! What do you love about the new NCPR Daily? Is it missing something? Is there something not quite working for you? What’s your favorite part? Let me know! You can drop me a line at caitlin@ncpr.org.

Until next time, here's the news —

Trump falls just below 50% in popular vote, but gets more than in past elections

This year's popular-vote margin is the second-closest since 1968 and still tightening. It shows just how closely divided the country is politically, and that any shift to the right is marginal.
