Spooky, the unofficial (and completely self-appointed) mascot of IHB City Hall, has been waiting ALL YEAR for October to arrive.
While the rest of us are just getting into the fall spirit, Spooky would like everyone to know he’s been ready since November 1 of last year. After months of patiently supervising City Hall operations, his season has officially arrived.
Enjoy it while it lasts, Spooky. October was made for you!
| | When Routine Maintenance Makes a Splash | | |
You may have noticed some extra activity around City Hall last week. During routine utility maintenance being performed by Melbourne Water, a water line that directly serves City Hall was accidentally damaged, resulting in flooding inside our Public Works headquarters.
Melbourne Water crews worked diligently following the incident to restore water service to City Hall and assist with cleanup in the Public Works shop.
Thankfully, our Public Works crew knows how to roll with the punches. Despite the unexpected indoor “water feature,” they kept their sense of humor throughout it all, with more than a few jokes about canoes and floaties making the rounds.
We appreciate Melbourne Water’s quick response following the incident to address the damage and restore service, and we especially want to recognize our good-natured Public Works team. Even when the workday takes an unexpected turn, they always seem to have the best attitude and keep moving forward!

Residents may notice increased traffic along Pine Tree Drive/Banana River Drive and Wimico Drive on Thursday, October 8, due to trench work in Satellite Beach.
While the work is underway, access to the Library, Sports Park, Dog Park, and Skate Park will not be available from the Satellite Beach side. Those traveling to these locations will need to access them from the Indian Harbour Beach side, which is expected to result in heavier traffic along Wimico Drive and surrounding roads.
The work is anticipated to be completed by approximately 3:30 p.m. today.
Please use caution in the area and allow a little extra time if traveling nearby. Thank you for your patience!

Congratulations to the homeowners on creating a beautiful landscape that shows just how creative gardening with edible plants can be.

New Fencing at Gleason Park
Our Public Works crew continues to make improvements throughout Gleason Park! This week, Shawn Saucier and Michael Andruszko installed new split-rail fencing along the southwest side of the park, running parallel to the FPL substation and extending toward South Patrick Drive (S.R. 513).
Thank you to Shawn and Michael for their hard work helping maintain and improve our City parks and public spaces!

City Hall Baffle Box Gets Added Protection
Last week, Delamere Industries delivered and installed a new guardrail around the City Hall baffle box.
The guardrail provides an additional layer of protection for the new stormwater infrastructure by helping create a barrier between the baffle box and nearby vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
It’s another step toward completing this important stormwater improvement project!

Fresh Signs for Beach Parking
Beach parking is getting a refresh! New beach parking signs were installed this week, replacing older signs that had become faded and worn over time
Another small improvement helping keep our City looking its best!

New Signage at the City Hall Baffle Box
Public Works Director Todd Scaldo installed new signage along the recently added guardrail at the City Hall baffle box.
The signs remind residents and visitors that fishing and cast netting are not permitted from the baffle box structure, helping protect both the new infrastructure and those enjoying the area.
We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in helping us keep the area safe and protect this important stormwater improvement.

Department Training: Crisis Intervention Program
Officer Patrick Koutros successfully completed a 40-hour Crisis Intervention Program (CIP) training course. This specialized training equips law enforcement officers with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively respond to individuals experiencing mental health crises.
The training was provided at no cost and hosted by the West Melbourne Police Department.
As law enforcement officers continue to encounter individuals experiencing mental health challenges, training like this helps ensure they are prepared to respond with empathy, professionalism and the tools necessary to assist those in crisis.
