Principal's Message

It is hard to believe that we are almost at the midpoint of the school year. I wanted to extend my gratitude for the flexibility that parents and staff as we shifted to the 2 hour late start yesterday. As we are wrapping up Quarter 2, it is also the time of the year that we start the registration process for the 2023-2024 school year.

We are starting on Thursday, February 2 with our virtual Information Night for Incoming 6th Graders. Our current 6th and 7th graders will have the opportunity to register for next year in mid February. We have been working hard on our new Course Guide and we are excited to share it with you soon. Additional registration details will be included in next week's OT News.

Our Winter Play is coming up in a few weeks and I invite you to come and see the talent of our Middle School students. Please see below for ticket information and performance dates.

"Did You Know...."

Did you know that the FAQ page on the MS website provides a comprehensive list of commonly asked questions/answers. Is today and A or B day? How do I report my child's attendance? This is a great resource to check out!

Winter Play

Please join us for SLP Middle School Theater's winter production of Seedfolks by Paul Fleishman. From the publisher's description of the show: "The first year in the life of a community garden unfolds in this 'spoken musical,' adapted from the award-winning children's novel of the same name." Performances are Jan 26-28 at the Middle School Performing Arts Center. Tickets can be purchased in advance here.

Host Family Appreciation

A HUGE Thank You to the Vanderpoel and Webb Families for hosting our Global Interns this first semester. They generously opened their homes and made Sara and Kevin truly feel like part of their families. Sara and Kevin will live with two new families for the remainder of the school year.

We would also like to thank the "Cousin Families": Sangsters, Andersons, Augustines and Murugesans for their continued support. All of these families have shown Sara and Kevin what a great community we have here in St Louis Park.

Hosting or supporting a Global Intern is a great way to give back to the community while also learning about other cultures and making friendships that last a lifetime. We will soon be starting the interview process for Global Interns for the 2023-24 school year. If your family has any interest in hosting please reach out to me. Karita Bentley karitabentley@gmail.com

Family/Caregiver Resources

During Large Group Advisory (now called Level Up) over the next two weeks, students will be learning about Vaping. School Counselor, School Social Workers and our School Resource Officer will be presenting from Catch My Breath Curriculum.  Lessons will be differentiated by grade level.  For parent and caregiver information, please click here.  The website offers supports to parents and caregivers including how to assess your student’s risk and how to have conversations with your student.

Consider asking your student(s):

“I heard you learned about Vaping during Advisory this week in the Performing Arts Center”

  • What did you learn about the dangers of vaping?
  • What did you learn about the chemicals in a vape?
  • Who can you ask for help or if you have a question?
