Giving Tuesday: Providing Crucial Resources for Women and Girls

By Christine Lee, Liquidnet

2024 STA WIF Vice Chair

Naturally, this time of year we're brainstorming the best possible gifts for him, for her, and for everyone in between. In the midst of the long shopping lines and credit card charges, it's important to take a step back and remind ourselves the importance of extending our time and resources to our greater communities. Days of recognition like Giving Tuesday have bring together thousands of people to come together and spread awareness on behalf of those in need. Giving Tuesday, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, is a day dedicated to our communities, spreading awareness of and participation in charitable campaigns nationwide.

Just as we at STA WIF aim to spread awareness for the unique career needs of women, there are certainly unique philanthropic needs of women that are often unfortunately overlooked. According to a study from the Women's Philanthropic Institute, charitable organizations directly benefitting women and girls ranked last among 10 major charitable categories, with only 1.85% of all giving being designated to these organizations since 2021. While strides have been made, with women-dedicated charities receiving over $10 billion in giving for the first time in 2021, ensuring these organizations have the resources, volunteers, and funds needed to grow is crucial to helping women around the world. As we approach this holiday season, we encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the many ways we can better the lives of those in our community - no act of giving is too small.
