On the first day of the 2024 GLIFWC Healing Circle Run, the core group began at Pipestone Falls in Lac Courte Oreilles and ended their first stretch in Fifield, where the Lac du Flambeau crew picked up their leg of the run.
"The Lac du Flambeau team started with smudging and placing our tobacco down," Alicia LaBarge said. "We started in Fifield and ended the first day at the Round House in Lac du Flambeau. We covered 28 miles."
The second day started with a ceremony at the Round House. The Lac du Flambeau team started the stretch from the Lac du Flambeau Round House to Mole Lake.
"We stopped for lunch in Woodruff," Alicia said, "and we ended our part of the run in Pelican Lake just outside of Rhinelander."
Alicia shared this year marks the 35th annual Healing Circle Run! The run is a week-long event, connecting 10 Ojibwe nations over the course of a 700-mile loop. The Lac du Flambeau Boxing Team and several community members, she said, participate every year in The Annual Healing Circle Run, which was held July 13-19 this year.
Alicia thanked GLIFWC and everyone who helps keep this run going and to all participants of this year's leg for Lac du Flambeau. She even shared some photos of people from Lac du Flambeau (below) who helped the first two days.
