Safety Moment - Gaga Ball

Gaga Ball is a fast-paced sport that has become very popular. The game is played in an octagonal pit and is considered to be a gentler version of dodgeball. When playing, always have adult supervision to monitor this activity, use foam balls or other soft materials, hit the ball with an open hand versus a closed fist, and play by the rules. If executed correctly, Gaga Ball is a fun and safe activity providing youth hours of entertainment and exercise.

Adventure West Council Camp Properties Update

August-September 2026

The Adventure West Council Properties Committee is committed to ensuring that each camp is a location where Scouting Adventures can take place. They provide a variety of places that can be experienced throughout the year.

The Council Properties Committee will focus during the coming months on the five council properties: Ben Delatour Scout Ranch (BDSR), Camp Buffalo Bill (CBB), Camp Laramie Peak (CLP), Chimney Park Scout Camp (CCP), and Camp Patiya.

Each month the committee will seek to highlight some of the improvements at the camps. It is important for all of us to know that efforts are underway to provide safe, well-maintained facilities for Scouting Adventures to take place.

Camp Buffalo Bill:

  • A new roof on the pump house
  • The experienced dishwasher has been repaired and serviced in preparation for next summer.

Ben Delatour Scout Ranch:

  • Completion of the Tointon Village at Camp Nicol (Pavilion, Bunk House, and Cabin). The final step is stain and concrete sealing. A dedication will take place at 11:00 am on October 17th as part of the Cub Scout Haunted Weekend.
  • Ten different conservation work days to improve the health of the camp forests have taken place during August and September.
  • Canvas tents have been taken down for the season. Efforts were made to inventory the tents and store them in a way that identifies the required maintenance of each tent.
  • Water Symposium will take place on September 10th to develop a detailed action plan to ensure that adequate water will be available at the camp for 2027.

Camp Laramie Peak

  • Road through the camp was bladed by the Forest Service.
  • Drain line from the Dining Hall was repaired.
  • Special efforts have been made to the water system to support Woodbadge weekends and Council Camporall.

10 Months Until Summer 2027!

Summer Camp is the practicum for ten months of weekly unit meetings, monthly campouts and activities, individual advancement experiences, and youth leadership training and practice. Every Scout deserves and needs a chance to go to summer camp. Summer Camp allows them the opportunity to test their skills, practice their skills, and demonstrate with confidence their skills.

September is the time to make plans for next summer. The plans begin with a commitment to attend summer camp from the entire unit organization: youth members, adult leaders, unit committee, and charter organization.  This can be done at unit meetings during September with a large poster at the troop meeting location with places identified for each person to sign their name committing to join the troop next summer at camp. This will be a weekly reminder for everyone that everything that takes place during the next ten months will ensure a summer camp experience that will last a lifetime.

1. Pick a camp and make a reservation by September 30th. Information about Adventure West Council Camps can be found on the council website at awbsa.org or by following these links to Ben Delatour Scout Camp, Camp Buffalo Bill or Yellowstone High Adventure Outpost at Camb Buffalo Bill.

2. The Troop Committee and Adult Leaders should determine a budget by September 30th that will help all participants know what will be needed to cover the cost and meet the payment schedule for summer camp 2027.

3. Youth members, adult leaders, unit committee members, and charter organization should build a calendar by September 30th with detailed steps to be accomplished each month to prepare for the adventure.

Summer Camp 2027 begins now!
