Clemson Entrepreneur of the Week

Catherine Chapman

Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer, BitRip

BASc, Psychology, 2021

What role do you play in the entrepreneurial ecosystem?

Move fast and break things. As a co-founder, my role is constantly in motion, deploying updates, testing ideas, listening hard, and adapting fast. At BitRip, we're not just building software, we're building a category. That means leading from the front and staying relentlessly focused on value. We’re changing how fieldwork gets done, and I’m in the driver’s seat, making sure we scale with purpose.

What are some of your best memories of your time at Clemson?

One of my favorite Clemson memories was my sophomore year of college, when I was able to attend both the football playoff and the CFP finals, where we crushed Alabama. Creating those memories with friends and my family is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We joke in my family because our first Natty was when my dad was at Clemson, the second, my older sister, and the third was with me. There are no more siblings, so we’re working on a solution fast.

What were the key inflection points in your career after you left Clemson?

We started BitRip right before my junior year at Clemson, so some meaningful moments happened while I was still a student. One of the first was signing our very first distributor, Ram Tool Construction Supply. A Clemson alum took a chance on us, and that belief stuck with me.

Later came Grainger, a major step that brought BitRip into the hands of companies like Tesla and American Airlines. Getting our patent approved felt like we had truly and officially created something new. One of the hardest turning points was parting ways with our first manufacturing partner. At the time, it felt like a failure, but it gave us the freedom to build a better product and reconnect with why we started. So much of what shaped me and BitRip started at Clemson. My Clemson family gave me the courage to bet on something big.

What are your personal and professional dreams?

Personally, I want to create a life that matters. I’ve been shaped by incredible role models who’ve taught me the power of relationships and making people feel seen. I want to be that for others, someone who helps them realize their work, their actions, and their presence can make a difference, even just in one other person’s life. I dream of traveling often, learning deeply, and constantly growing and understanding how people think and live.

Professionally, we’re chasing scale, not just to grow, but to make a real impact. I want to build a company that reshapes an industry, genuinely makes people’s lives easier and safer, and opens doors for future founders who don’t fit the mold of the industry they are disrupting. I want to build something that improves the way people work. I want to lead a people-first company that listens well and that solves real problems with simple solutions.

What would you recommend students do to maximize their remaining time at Clemson?

Have fun. Enjoy making memories in the Clemson bubble, whether that’s hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, suntanning on Bowman, or going to a sporting event. This time is so precious. As a COVID grad, we know how quickly your time can be taken away. Do something new. At Clemson, there are so many ways to get involved and do things you’ve never imagined doing. In college, you can afford to be a little riskier, so join the Chocolate Milk Club, start a business, or study abroad. Immersing yourself in the new is the best way to learn what you truly love.

What else should we know about you?

I believe good businesses are built on integrity, humility, and a whole lot of grit. BitRip has been a journey of figuring things out as we go, staying scrappy, and learning from anyone willing to share what they know. I’ve learned you can’t do it alone. I’m super grateful for the people who’ve supported me, pushed me, and helped carry the load, especially when things got tough. Curiosity has always been my way of connecting. My dad says, “When she starts asking questions, it’s never just small talk — she’s trying to understand what’s underneath it all.” At the heart of it, I love people, how we think, how we work together, and the why behind it all. That curiosity and the resilience to keep showing up keep me going every day.
