August City Council Meeting Recap

During the August Regular City Council Meeting, Dr. Tavari Turner of the Georgia Municipal Association presented South Forsyth High School senior Pranavi Saguturu with recognition for her participation on the LeadershipNext Statewide Youth Council last school year. Pranavi was one of only 12 students from throughout Georgia selected to serve on the council.

City Council also took the following actions in August:

  • Approved rezoning applications from Shree Real Estate Developers, LLC. for commercial and age-restricted residential developments on a total of just over 36 acres located between Sanders Road and Marketplace Blvd.
  • Approved a road abandonment of Horseshoe Court right-of-way.
  • Approved the low proposal from Townley Construction for installation of sewer line to a business on Sawnee Drive, which can also be used to service additional properties in the future.
  • Approved a resolution which allows St. Vincent de Paul of Georgia to apply for a grant that, if awarded, will help fund the non-profit's Cottages of Providence project. The Cottages of Providence is a proposed affordable housing development consisting of 74 "tiny houses" that would be managed by St. Vincent de Paul staff to provide rentals on a sliding scale for those in need, with priority given to Forsyth County seniors and veterans. A public comment session was held prior to the vote with several St. Vincent de Paul volunteers and other community members speaking in favor of the project, and no one speaking in opposition.
  • Approved the proposal from Spectrum Sprint with Rapid Lock for purchase of new dive starting blocks at the Cumming Aquatic Center.
  • Approved an Alcoholic Beverage License application for the sale of distilled spirits, malt beverages and wine for consumption on the premises for Tavern Off the Green at the Cumming City Center.
  • Approved the mayor to sign the Transmittal Resolution and forward draft documents associated with the Capital Improvements Element to the Atlanta Regional Commission and Georgia Department of Community Affairs.
  • Held the initial public hearing for the City's 2027 Comprehensive Plan Update, which is conducted every 5 years. Other public hearings and opportunities for public feedback will be held throughout the Comprehensive Plan Update process.
  • Approved the proposal from Aqua-Summit for particle counter replacements for Cumming Utilities.
  • Approved an updated Cost to Cure Agreement with Forsyth County, which will allow Cumming Utilities to be reimbursed by Forsyth County for work that was completed on a Highway 369 water and sewer relocation in 2020.
