Reporting and Operations

Deadline to submit dyslexia screener data extended to Oct. 16

The fall universal dyslexia screener reporting window is currently open. KSDE understands due to issues with student information systems and the transition to the Kansas Education Data System (KEDS), some districts will not be able to meet the original deadline of submitting screener data by Oct. 10.

KSDE is extending this deadline to Friday, Oct.16. This does not change the testing window but does extend the deadline to report the data.

While KEDS is the recommended reporting system for this data, KSDE realizes some districts may not have all of their universal dyslexia screener data uploaded into their system. To accommodate districts in this situation, KSDE is also going to accept these scores via manual upload. If you are interested in submitting your data using this method, complete the Excel template and submit to datasubmission@ksde.gov prior to the Oct. 16 deadline.

Contact datasubmission@ksde.gov with questions.

2026-27 pictorial directory of

superintendents now available

The 2026-27 pictorial directory for Kansas USD superintendents is available on the Kansas State Department of Education’s website.

This directory can be accessed by going to www.ksde.gov, click on “Data & Reporting” and then click on “Directories.”

If a superintendent change occurs during the school year, contact Jen Ashley, jen.ashley@ksde.gov, with the KSDE division of fiscal and administrative services, or Cheryl Franklin, with KSDE communications and recognition programs, cheryl.franklin@ksde.gov, for updates to the pictorial directory.

The 2026-27 Kansas Educational Directory is still in the process of getting updated. Current school year data is being collected from schools in the Principal’s Building Report and S066. This directory will be posted on the KSDE website in late November/early December.

ICYMI: Dropout Graduation Summary Report now open in authenticated

web application

The Dropout Graduation Summary Report (DGSR) is open as of Oct. 1, in the KSDE authenticated web application. Districts need to submit their DGSR by Oct. 30.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Please remember to exit students from the 2025-26 school year before the Oct. 1 date. No KIDS EXIT record will be accepted with an exit withdrawal date after Sept. 30, 2026. These KIDS EXIT records help avoid dropouts and non-graduate issues. Also, remember to toggle back to the 2025-26 school year in KIDS to update those unknown exits or graduates.

As a reminder, the data in DGSR updates overnight. Any information submitted to KIDS will not be reflected in the DGSR until the next day.

Public input requested for

teacher licensure standards

The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) is inviting the public to share feedback on proposed updates to the standards used to guide educator licensure programs in Kansas.

These standards help ensure future teachers, school specialists, and school leaders are well-prepared with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in Kansas schools.

The updates were developed by committees of subject matter experts, in both higher education and PreK-12 grade educators, who reviewed national standards, current research and input from professional organizations.

The Building and District Leadership Educator Preparation Standards can be found here: Public Review/Comment for Kansas Educator Licensure Program Standards. The public comment period is open until Oct. 24.

Contact TLALicense@ksde.gov with questions.

Reviewers needed for

educator preparation programs

The Kansas State Department of Education is seeking KSDE-trained program reviewers to review several educator preparation programs this fall.

Higher education institutions must have approved programs for all areas for which they wish to make licensing recommendations, so these reviews are vital to maintaining strong educator preparation in Kansas.

More information about what volunteers will do and a survey asking what programs they are willing to review can be accessed here:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BCZTLCY

KSDE deeply appreciates the time and expertise of reviewers and encourages that time spent on reviews be recognized as professional development service to the profession.

KESA virtual monthly update

set for Oct. 12

The monthly KESA virtual update will be 10:30 – 11:15 a.m. on Oct. 12, via this Zoom link and it will be recorded.

Our partners from RMC Research and Mathematica will share their work on implementation science with the group. They produced our newest resource – Implementation Guidance for Systems. One of the most challenging aspects of any worthy endeavor is implementation, so if you want to learn more about the basics of solid implementation, you won’t want to miss this session.

Additionally, thank you to everyone who provided feedback for the Padlet® we began working on in September: Implementation Community of Practice 26-27. We won’t be interacting with the Padlet® in October but will pick back up in November with a deep dive into the Plan-Do-Study-Act standards and indicators.

ICYMI: New guidance resource available

for district leadership teams

By Jay Scott, director of KSDE implementation and supports

We’re excited to announce a new resource! Beginning last spring we partnered with RMC Research and Mathematica to learn more about the science and the art of implementation. The result of this collaboration is this new Implementation Guidance for School Systems. This is not a holistic approach to implementation science, rather a narrow focus on two aspects of implementation:

  1. Profile of an Implementation Team
  2. For many of you, your KESA district leadership team (DLT) drives implementation of your KESA Action Plan, but, for some, you may have buildings or professional learning communities (PLCs) driving implementation. This resource delved into what research says about the makeup, features, and functions of a solid implementation team.
  3. Aspects of a Comprehensive Needs Assessment
  4. Before you can identify the focus of your Action Plan, it’s critically important to do a comprehensive needs assessment. We’ve heard from many school districts over the years that they sometimes struggle with knowing what data to pull together and how to analyze that data before making an informed decision on what the highest-leverage action to focus on moving forward. This guidance walks through the steps of a comprehensive needs assessment with guiding questions for your team to consider.

This guidance aligns with the Plan-Do-Study-Act standards and can help your team implement with excellence. This resource also includes some ready-made templates for you and your team as well as the research behind the guidance. It is posted on our KESA Resources webpage under the School Improvement Resources heading.

Our team will reference this guidance at your School Improvement Day, but there is no need to wait until your day to crack open this guidance.

We want to thank our partners at RMC Research and Mathematica for their leadership, teaching, and putting together this new resource.

If you have any questions about this new guidance, feel free to contact your Region or Cohort Executive.
