OIA Scholars

Islam, our way of life!

Arabic

OIA students are learning more Arabic each day. This week students continue their units on food and drink! They are also creating their mini books using their new Arabic vocabulary. Students also hold conversations about their favorite foods and meals. Additionally, students have an opportunity to bring their favorite snacks, fruits, or foods to share with their classmates, speaking only in Arabic to communicate!

The Virtues of Patience

In Islamic Studies, our students are focusing on the virtue of patience and learning about the story of Prophet Ayub (AS). Through these lessons, students are encouraged to reflect on how they can be more patient in everyday ventures!

Students are also learning a hadith about patience:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The real patience is at the first stroke of a calamity."

Quran connection: Surah Az-Zumar, verse 10

Say ˹O Prophet, that Allah says˺, “O My servants who believe! Be mindful of your Lord. Those who do good in this world will have a good reward. And Allah’s Earth is spacious. Only those who endure patiently will be given their reward without limit.”

Of course, OIA students continue reading Surah Al-Kahf every Friday!

OIA Classroom Spotlight

OIA’s second grade classroom is in the spotlight this week, mashaAllah! Our second graders embody the seven essential features of a positive classroom community: rapport, tradition, pride of place, a sense of belonging, a standard of personal best, academic engagement, and support to independence. It all begins with OIA teachers, who build rapport with their students, and get to know them as individuals. Second grade’s morning meetings provide time for students to learn about and celebrate one another, to value and appreciate differences, and develop empathy for each other’s life experiences. OIA second graders have evident pride in their classroom and it's reflected by their fantastic display of work. In addition to collaborating, second graders also find quiet nooks to work independently, and they all enjoy learning, and growing together.

In addition to a strong sense of belonging, OIA’s second graders cultivate positive relationships between one another, and share control of and responsibility for the care of their classroom. Together, they make decisions, solve problems, and share their feelings. OIA’s second graders consistently rise to the level of our school’s expectations, mashaAllah. These kiddos are in charge of their own learning, they reflect on their work, make changes to improve, and set goals for themselves. OIA’s second graders continue to achieve at higher and higher levels, both academically and socially. Keep up the amazing work second grade, and keep setting the bar higher and higher, mashaAllah!
