Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.  Matthew 11:28-30

In part three of this teaching series, we will examine Psalms 37, one of the best sources of information and instruction about divine rest.  Here is some of what this Psalms tells us:

Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in him, and He shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. Cease from anger and forsake wrath; do not fret – it only causes harm.  Psalms 37:1-8

These eight verses contain some of the best guidance God could ever give about walking in divine rest.  In fact, this whole psalm provides a wealth of encouragement and exhortation as we navigate the cares and affairs of life.  Satan is always looking for ways to rob us of our peace, which has a direct effect on our ability to stay in a place of divine, supernatural rest.  It reveals some of the best ways to demonstrate true faith in God, as we feed on His faithfulness each day.

Three times in these eight verses we are told not to “fret”. We do not use that word much in modern-day conversation, but it simply means don’t worry!  We need to learn and apply these instructions daily. We are told not to worry about evil doers and workers of iniquity – people who bring wicked schemes to pass, while they continue to enjoy more and more prosperity.

As you know, they are everywhere these days. On the secular side, there are corrupt politicians, judges, teachers, etc. On the spiritual side, there are those who hate Christians, Jews and anything that has to do with Jesus as Lord & Savior. They do their best to malign us, intimidate us, censor us and plot and plan our destruction and removal from any level of social influence. Then of course, we deal constantly with the devil himself, as he whispers lie after lie in our ears, hoping to plant as much fear as possible into our hearts and minds.

What the Bible tell us to do?  In these eight verses we are told to do eight things.  1)  Don’t worry (fret).  2) Don’t be envious of the wicked.  3) Delight yourself in the Lord.  4) Commit your way to the Lord.  5) Trust in the Lord.  6) Rest in the Lord.  7) Be patient.  8) Cease from anger and forsake wrath.  In summary, don’t worry about anyone or anything, because it only causes harm.  Harm to whom?  You and me – the worriers!

Listen my friend, the ungodly aren’t going away until Jesus returns and removes them Himself. Until then, they are here, and they will continue to try and bring evil and destruction into our lives. We may successfully lead some of them out of darkness by accepting Jesus and turning from their wicked ways, but for the most part, they love the darkness and have no intention of changing (John 3:19-20).

Instead of allowing worry to ruin our life, steal our peace and deny us the rest that Jesus promises, we should follow God’s example.  We should learn to laugh at the enemy.

The wicked plots against the just, and gnashes at him with his teeth.  The Lord laughs at him, for He sees that his day is coming.  Psalms 37:12-13.

Don’t worry, don’t fret and don’t get upset!  Laugh – at them!  That is what God is doing, as we see here in Psalms 37 and in other places like Psalms 2:4, Psalms 59:8 and Proverbs 1:26. All through Psalms 37, we are told to relax, trust God, commit our lives to Him and feed upon His faithfulness. We are told to rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him.

In context, what are we specifically waiting on God to do?  To see Him judge the wicked and negate their evil schemes against us. You’ve heard of these demonic movements out there called cancel culture, or DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion)?  These are hot topics being promoted constantly by the liberals and their faithful allies – the leftist, communist news media (CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, etc.), social media (Facebook, YouTube, X, etc.) and Big Tech (Google, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, etc.) in the USA.

In short, this is the devil using multitudes of useful idiots (aka: all liberals) to try and destroy any part of our history that does not fit their anti-American, anti-Christian agenda. Unfortunately for them, God has another plan at work, described in detail throughout the Word of God.  Psalms 37 is an example of that. Listen to how the Lord is going to take care of those who rail against Christians in these last days:

Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity: Verse 1. They shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb: verse 2.  Evildoers shall be cut off: verse 9.  In a little while the wicked shall be no more.  Indeed, we will look around carefully for their place, but it shall be no more: verse 10.  Their sword shall enter their own heart, and their bows shall be broken: verse 15.  The arms of the wicked shall be broken: verse 16.  The wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord, like the splendor of the meadows, shall vanish in a cloud of smoke: verse 20.  Those who are cursed by the Lord shall be cut off: verse 22.  The descendants of the wicked shall be cut off: verse 28.  When the wicked are cut off, we shall see it: verse 34.  The transgressors shall be destroyed together.  The future of the wicked shall be cut off: verse 38.

Do these statements bring comfort to you?  They do to me!  God is well-able and very willing to bring His judgment and justice to bear against these ungodly puppets of hell – and promises to do so in due season.  Similar statements and promises can be found throughout the book of Psalms, as well as many other books of the Bible – Old Testament as well as New Testament. So, relax brethren – be in peace and be at rest!  Vengeance belongs to God – He will definitely repay (Deuteronomy 32:35/Romans 12:19/Hebrews 10:30).

If you are not yet convinced that its pointless to worry, you need to spend more time feeding your mind with the truth about God’s faithfulness to us all.  One of the best ways to do that is to consider history. That is, consider God’s historic dealings with humankind in general, as well as His past dealings with you personally.

I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green native tree.  Yet he passed away, and behold, he was no more.  Indeed, I sought him, but he could not be found.  Psalms 37:35-36.

Only fear the Lord, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you. 1 Samuel 12:24.

Notice these are statements made in relation to past tense happenings. “I have seen” is past tense. “Yet he passed away” is past tense. “He was no more” is past tense. “I sought him” is past tense. “Consider what great things He has done for you” is past tense. How many times in history, as recorded not just in the Bible, but throughout the annals of human history, has God stepped in and delivered the righteous from the unrighteous?  More times than we could count. In addition, don’t just look at history in general, but also look at your own history, and feed on God’s faithfulness there.

Stop and consider how many times has He answered your prayers in the past, especially in times of crisis?  How many times has He forgiven you of sins and mistakes made?  How many times have you made promises to Him, only to break them time and time again?  How many times have you said one thing to the Lord, and done another? Think about His patience with all of us.  Think about His mercy which is new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). Think about His ability and willingness to forgive us from sins every time we ask for it (1 John 1:9).  Think about how many times He stayed faithful to you, even when you weren’t faithful to Him? Trust the Lord. Do good. Feed on these truths!

I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread.  Psalms 37:25.

My friends, when we consider all that God tells us in Psalms 37, there is no reason to ever worry about the Lord’s promises to protect us, guide us, lead us, and provide for us.  If He be for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31-39).  Do not get stressed out over anything the enemy is trying to do in your life, because it will only cause you harm.  God is at work on your behalf.  He will never leave you or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).  Rest in the Lord.  Wait patiently for Him.  Your victory is guaranteed!

I have written a number of books, and this month I’d like to promote one my smaller titles:

THE RADICAL REMNANT. This book is a quick read designed to inspire, instruct and exhort the true warriors for Christ Jesus in these last days.

Here’s an excerpt from the book: Many Christians have decided to compromise their faith for protection from persecution in these last days. This is a tragedy, for them and for those they’ll never reach for Jesus. But out of this sea of sin and compromise, rises the Radical Remnant. The small but potent army within God’s army. They fearlessly proclaim the truth without hesitation or apology. Empowered by God’s anointing, they boldy repel the wrath of those who love darkness (1 John 3:19-21).
