This Week: Happy Passover, Happy Easter, Park Project, Egg Hunts & More!

Mayor's Message

Happy Passover and Happy Easter

As we move into the first day of April, I want to wish all of you and your loved ones a Happy Passover and Happy Easter (and a meaningful Good Friday). These sacred holidays, though rooted in different traditions, both invite us to reflect on themes of liberation, renewal, faith, and hope. Passover reminds us of the enduring human longing for freedom and dignity, while Easter speaks to the promise of new life and the power of grace after hardship. Together, they offer a beautiful message for all of us: that even in difficult times, redemption is possible, hope can be restored, and light can emerge from struggle.

May this season bring peace to your home, strength to your spirit, and renewed faith in the goodness we are called to share with one another.

Memorial Park Shoreline Pathway Project has begun!

We’re delighted to announce that construction has begun on the shoreline project, which will completely remake the pathway along the Hudson River in Memorial Park. Here’s what you need to know about the project:

  • The work requires closing off the eastern parts of the park: the shore itself and the paved area just east of the Great Lawn and the Skate Park.
  • You can still access the Park from the Marina Parking Lot — there’s a path that goes from the footbridge along the fence to an opening on the western edge of the fencing. You can also access from the upper lawn.
  • Other than the waterfront, the rest of the park is open: the Great Lawn, the Upper Lawn, the Playground, the Viewing Platform, the Basketball Court, and the Skatepark. And the little waterpark will be opened after Memorial Day when it gets warmer.
  • The work should be completed by the end of June. The goal is to have it done for our 250th celebration on July 3rd with fireworks in the Park.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but it’s going to be worth it. When this is done, we will have completed a wholesale renovation of the Park, including the Great Lawn, the Playground, and now the shoreline path.

Here’s a story from Diane Caruso of News12 this past week at the park paroject.

Two Off-Broadway Shows from Nyack Composer Neil Berg

My friend (and neighbor) Neil Berg is a musician and composer who has written two musicals that are currently running off-broadway. He writes beautiful music, and both shows are worth checking out not just to go see great theater in NYC but also to support one of our own — a Rockland boy made good. The two shows are both in limited runs right now:

How My Grandparents Fell in Love

I saw this last summer at its debut at the New Jersey Repertory Company in Long Branch, NJ. It’s the touching story written by Neil and Cray Gitter about how a young Jewish couple meets in the shadow of the dawn of Nazi German. It was absolutely lovely, and they’ve brought that same cast off-broadway to 59E59 Theaters on the east side of Manhattan. It’s a small theater, not a bad seat in the house. Runs until April 18th. Find out more and get tickets here.

The Man Who Would be King

Written by Neil and DJ Salisbury, this new musical based on the Rudyard Kipling story that was about a pair of scoundrels who manage to reign over a pagan society in the mountains of imperial India. I remember seeing the movie as a kid, and I’m looking forward to seeing the musical this week before it ends its run on Friday, April 3rd at the Theater at St. Luke’s. Bonus: one of the actors is Neil’s incredibly talented wife Rita Harvey, also a local Nyacker! Tickets are about $30 and are available here.
