Meet Layla (Little) & Sophia (Big)

Sophia and Layla have been paired since March 2022, and over the past two years, Sophia has had the privilege of witnessing Layla grow into a confident young individual. Their bond has provided Layla with a safe space to explore new friendships, navigate big emotions, and share her excitement and drama-filled moments. Together, they always managed to balance schoolwork with fun activities like gym visits and outdoor walks.

In the picture to the left, you can see their final program moment, where they shared a heartfelt hug. On the right, they are playing with chalk, with "Love You Sis" prominently written in the foreground—a nod to their close relationship.

Sophia is graduating from Clark University this semester and will be pursuing graduate school next year. During her time at Clark, Sophia served as the President of the university’s BBBS Club and has now passed the torch to another dedicated mentor, Zach.

Celebrating Pride Month

Our Organization born out of justice to create equity for youth, bringing together diverse communities so that all kids can feel included in the promise and opportunity for a better life. BBBSA actively engages diversity, inclusion, and cultural competencies throughout our organization. As we celebrate Pride Month, we want to reaffirm our promise to educate and uplift LGBTQIA+ individuals not just during this month but throughout the year.

Click the button below to read the LGBTQ Supplement to the Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring™. It responds to a long-standing call to extend the reach and quality of mentoring relationships to one of our nation’s most underserved, marginalized, and vulnerable populations- youth who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQQ).

Happy Pride!

BBBSA National Conference

A couple weeks ago, our CEO Connie, Board President Lynette, and Director of Corporate Partnerships and Workforce Development Rich attended the National Big Brothers Big Sisters Convention in Dallas, Texas. This annual gathering brought together leaders and mentors from across the country to share insights, strategies, and innovations in all things BBBS.

Connie, Lynette, and Rich participated in a variety of workshops and listened to inspiring speakers, gaining valuable knowledge on best practices for enhancing our programs and supporting our Bigs and Littles.

A highlight of the convention was Connie's role as a panelist, where she discussed our innovative Big Pathways program. This initiative, a partnership with the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), was successfully piloted at MassBay Community College this year. Connie shared insights on the program's impact and how it helps broaden opportunities for our Littles, preparing them for successful futures.

The convention was a productive experience for our team, reinforcing our commitment to mentorship and providing new tools to continue making a positive difference in our community.

Golf Fore Kids

On Monday, June 24, 2024, the 8th Annual Golf Fore Kids Tournament at Marlborough Country Club brought together our community for a day of fun and competition. The sunny, but windy, weather added a challenging twist to the game. Team Hawley won first place after a thrilling tiebreaker against Team Arbella, and the event raised funds to support BBBSCM programming.

Participants enjoyed a breakfast from Panera Bread, hot dog snacks during the game, and a Tuscan buffet at the reception. The event featured a video of the national Big and Little of the Year, a heartfelt speech by Board member Jack Hoehlein, and a raffle with exciting prizes. The day was a resounding success, blending fun and philanthropy for a great cause.
