TUNNY, COOPER, HARTLAGE, WITTY WIN DURING WORLD FIGURE 8 WEEKEND
For the first-time, the EnergyPros.com Ford division was part of World Figure 8 Championship weekend. Their marquee event was Friday’s Ford Figure 8 Forty. Qualifications saw southern invader Marcus Elliott Jr establish a new track record at 20.731 seconds. 27-cars started the 40-lap clash presented by Stout’s Auto Sales, Indy Limousine, Matt’s Lawn Care and Elite New & Used Tire. Crazy crossover action and tons of paint-trading battling were on display for the Detroit-made machines. The fans and pay-per-view audience saw a whale of a finish. Leaders Matt Witty and Craig Wilder used every inch of infield trying to decide first on the last lap. Contact sent Witty spinning and third place Jesse Tunny to the lead and victory lane. Justin Fiedler was second followed by Jeff Whobrey, Lee Schwartz, Jeremy Miller, Witty, Wilder, Paul Hartlage, Tyler Conley, and John Gimbel.
 
Thursday’s Ford program began on the oval course. Heat races were won by Witty and Hartlage. The feature launched with division first lady Shelbie Crabtree pacing the pack. Hartlage got around and held off all comers for his first Speedrome win. Josh Fults was second over Quentin White, Crabtree, and Brian Wright. The Figure 8 main saw all-time wins leader Witty grab a 6th season crossover victory. Elliott was the runner-up followed by Hartlage, Fults, and Mike Stout.
 
The annual Figure 8 challenge for Front Wheel Drive cars was expanded to both Thursday and Friday this year. The initial evening saw Nick Cooper wheel his #44 to victory lane in the 25-lap feature besting Morgan Jeffries, Elliott McKinney, Tim Smith, and Ryan Seay. Cooper and Greg Smith captured heats. On Friday, Cooper was super once again powering to a triumph in the 30-lap main event. Ben Morton took home runner-up honors besting Nick Warner, Nigel Peters, and Josh Fults. Preliminary winners were Cooper and Morton.
