MAYOR'S UPDATE

From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin

All current Train Station permit holders should have received their email with the link to purchase their 2025 Train Station permits. If you have a current Train Station permit and are still waiting to receive an email from the Village of Ossining, please check your JUNK mail or call 914-762-8428 to be resent to your email.

All current permit holders have until Dec 16, 2024, to purchase their permits. After this date, we will open up the waiting list, which is growing daily, underscoring the urgency and importance of renewing your permit.

A few reminders:

🅿️If you have open parking tickets, please take care of them before you submit your application. The Clerk's office cannot process applications with open parking tickets.

🅿️ Please ensure you use the unique 'code' sent to your email to apply for your 2025 train station permit. This code is personalized for your use only, ensuring your application process is secure and valued.

🅿️This is a multi-part system. You will create an account, add a copy of the vehicle's registration, and provide the permit you are applying for.  After the account is approved, you will receive an email asking for the payment.

🅿️If you are rejected, you will receive an email on how to resubmit the application.

Have you ever wondered how you can join our team (or another in Westchester if you are into that kind of thing) as a Police Dispatcher? Well, wonder no more. The first step is taking the Police Dispatcher Exam through Westchester Human Resources at WWW.WESTCHESTERGOV.COM/HR

Do you need dispatcher experience to take the exam? NO

  • If you have one year in the military, you can be hired as a dispatcher.
  • If you are certified in NYS as an EMT, you can be hired as a dispatcher.
  • If you are a Volunteer Firefighter in NY and have completed the Basic Firefighter Training Course, you can be hired as a dispatcher.

If you meet these requirements OR plan to meet these requirements in the next few years, you can take the test and possibly be hired to work as a Police Dispatcher in Ossining or elsewhere in Westchester (not as fun as working here).

What's on the exam? Read the announcement here for more information:

Good luck!

This fall, the Ossining Youth Bureau, in partnership with the police, fire, and EMT departments, presents the exclusive Public Safety Civilian Academy, a unique six-week program designed specifically for the youth residents of Ossining. The program offered participants a rare opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the Public Safety Department, exploring potential careers in law enforcement, firefighting, and emergency medical services. Twice a week, participants engaged with experienced police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel, gaining hands-on experience and valuable insights into safety issues and public service. The program aimed to equip young people with the knowledge and skills to better assess and address safety challenges in their community.

On Friday, November 9, 2024, the Ossining Youth Bureau hosted a celebratory event to recognize the accomplishments of the program's participants. The ceremony brought together participants, their families, mentors, and local dignitaries, including the mayor, village manager, and chief of police. These esteemed figures presented certificates of completion to the youth, celebrating the hard work and dedication of the youth involved. The evening was filled with testimonials, gratitude, and pride as the community came together to close out this first-of-its-kind successful Civilian Academy program, marking a memorable achievement for both the participants and the village of Ossining.

The former Sunnyside Valley Property will be developed as an all-affordable senior housing complex. The board is in full support of this housing addition to our community. As part of this process the state would like to notify the public that action is about to begin that will address contamination related to the Sun Valley Nursery Filling Station site ("site") located at 136-140 Croton Avenue, Ossining, Westchester County. Please see the map for the site location. The cleanup activities will be performed by 136-140 Croton Avenue LLC ("applicant") with oversight provided by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). NYSDEC has determined that the Remedial Action Work Plan (RAWP) protects public health and the environment and has approved the plan.

Access the approved RAWP and other project documents online and at the locations identified at left under "Where to Find Information."

Remedial activities are expected to begin in December 2024 and last about 6 months.
