Hollister High is a Vote Center

Hollister High School is proud to partner with the San Benito County Elections Department as an official Vote Center location for the current election, providing convenient voter services through Election Day while creating meaningful opportunities for civic engagement throughout the community. The Vote Center is located in the Old Cafeteria near Baler Alley and serves as an accessible, centrally located site where community members can cast their ballots and access a variety of election services. According to the San Benito County Elections Department, schools serve as trusted community gathering places, making them ideal locations to encourage voter accessibility and participation. By hosting a Vote Center on campus, Hollister High School is helping strengthen connections between community members and the democratic process.

"This partnership creates an important opportunity for our students and community to engage directly in the democratic process," said Hollister High School Principal Kevin Medeiros. "We especially encourage our eligible 18-year-old students to register to vote and participate in elections. Reaching voting age is an important milestone, and we want our students to understand that their voices matter and that they have the ability to help shape the future of their communities through civic participation."

The partnership is particularly significant because young adults ages 18 to 25 represent the lowest registered voter age group in San Benito County and have historically experienced some of the lowest voter turnout rates. By bringing voting services directly to a familiar and frequently visited location, the Elections Department hopes to encourage voter registration, increase participation, and inspire lifelong civic involvement.

Vote Centers provide voters with flexibility and expanded services beyond those available at traditional polling places. At the Hollister High School Vote Center, voters can:

  • Vote in person
  • Drop off Vote-by-Mail ballots
  • Receive replacement ballots
  • Vote using accessible voting machines
  • Access bilingual assistance and voting materials
  • Register to vote or update voter registration information

"As a school, we are proud to support opportunities that promote informed, active citizenship and help students recognize the importance of being engaged members of society," Principal Medeiros said. The San Benito County Elections Department expressed its appreciation for the collaboration, noting that the partnership supports voter access, civic education, and community engagement throughout the county. By hosting the Vote Center, Hollister High School is reinforcing its commitment to preparing students not only for academic success, but also for active participation in their communities.

Shout's Weekly Woof

Hello HHS Friends,

I can definitely feel that the school year is ending. The hallways sound different, people are talking about finals, summer plans, and graduation, and everyone’s routines are changing a little bit. I notice those changes too.

As a facility dog, I really love my routines. I love seeing my friends every day, visiting classrooms, checking in with students and staff, and making my way around campus for pets and smiles. So when summer comes, it can feel a little strange for me not to see all of my people as often. Changes can feel exciting and hard at the same time — and I think that’s true for teens, too.

But here’s the good news: change also brings new adventures.

For me, summer means swimming (one of my FAVORITE things ever), and enjoying slower days in the sunshine. Even though routines change, there are still so many good things ahead.

I especially want to say how proud I am of our graduating students. I hope you remember that you do not have to have everything figured out right now. The future is not something to fear — it is something waiting for you.

There are people you have not met yet who will care about you.

Experiences you cannot even imagine yet.

Places you will go.

Moments that will make you proud of yourself.

Rest. Laugh. Swim if you can. Spend time with people who make you feel safe and valued. Find the things that help you feel like YOU.

Thank you for letting me be part of your year. You made my tail wag every single day.

Two Paws UP

Love,

Shout 🐶
