Reporting on teacher shortages and pay with a local and national focus
Schools nationwide have more teacher vacancies than qualified applicants to fill them. StateImpact Oklahoma education reporter Beth Wallis shared her story about participating in the teachers' walkout and protests at the state Capitol five years ago. To the national audience this week, Beth reported on the pro-teacher legislation now under consideration in Oklahoma – listen for the audio version on Weekend Edition Sunday, April 30, airing from 8 - 10 a.m. on KGOU.

NPR's Education Desk is reporting from several other states facing teacher shortages, in a series from NPR Correspondent Cory Turner. He recently visited school districts in Jackson, Miss., and San Antonio, Texas, and reported on innovative ways they are finding to train, hire and recruit new teachers.

Spring Fundraising Update: Matching Monday success!
KGOU's spring on-air fundraiser brought in 60 new supporters and 49 new sustaining (monthly) contributors, with a total of 257 individual donations. Over the course of the week, more than $53,000 was pledged – thank you!

Matching Monday was a great success, with 83 contributions toward Leslie and Cliff Hudson's generous offer to match them. Our contributors to the member matching fund and a challenge from Andrew and Diana Frost also furthered KGOU's financial goals for this spring fundraiser. A big 'thank you' to everyone who participated! And of course it's not too late to be included:

Dale Weeks, tells the story of Chief John Ross as he led the tribe in this struggle. Join KGOU's Logan Layden for a conversation with the author Sunday, April 30 at 12 p.m.
