Below are May 2023 excerpts from On the House, a blog TSAHC launched in 2014 on affordable housing topics. In June 2020, we launched a podcast as part of our blog. We invite you to drop by On the House or listen to our podcasts as we explore important issues, provide an inside look into our programs, and share other valuable resources.
Podcast Episode 29: An Interview with Joy Horak-Brown
This week we’re turning our On the House spotlight to supportive housing, which plays a key role in helping families and individuals achieve housing stability so they can focus on other financial goals (like homeownership) in the future. There’s no greater expert on the topic of supportive housing than Joy Horak-Brown, President and CEO of New Hope Housing in Houston.
Spotlighting Our Texas Foundations Fund
Through the Texas Foundations Fund, TSAHC partners with nonprofit organizations across the state to support housing services that meet the critical housing needs of underserved and very low-income Texans.

To date, TSAHC has invested more than $8 million into the program, improving access to critical home repairs and supportive housing services statewide. In 2022, we provided $1,250,000 in grant awards to 54 organizations. It was our largest funding commitment ever, and it was the most nonprofits we've awarded.
Honoring Texas Teachers
As the school year comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize teachers for their dedication and hard work in educating our children and preparing them for the future.

Here at TSAHC, we honor the service of Texas teachers by helping them become homeowners through our Homes for Texas Heroes Program. Rising home prices make it difficult for many teachers to purchase a home in the communities they serve. The Homes for Texas Heroes Program makes homeownership more attainable by providing down payment assistance and mortgage interest tax credits that can be claimed every year for the life of a home loan.
