Spring 2027 Offerings Wanted!
Our goal is to create over 70 multi-week courses, with an emphasis for more classes at the Braintree or Hingham Library.
Does a 5-6 week course seem too much? Considering creating a one-time lecture, presentation, or workshop. We have found that many OLLI students enjoy and appreciate shorter commitments due to their busy schedules. These OLLI Talks are great opportunities that still deliver high learning impact to our members!
Get out onto the streets or trails with a walking tour! Walking tours are more about the education than the exercise, but participants still get their steps in! Tour leaders design a 90-minute (or two-hour) walk that often highlight the history, architecture, and/or people of a given area.
We hope you will consider teaching for OLLI or encourage folks you know to share their knowledge with curious OLLI members!
Questions? Want more information? Please send an email to OLLI Proposal, and one of the staff will get back to you!

2026 Ballot Questions: What You Need to Know Before You Vote
Join the Boston OLLIs (Brandeis, Tufts, and UMass Boston) for a joint session to learn more about the nine questions on the fall state ballot.
Evan Horowitz, Executive Director of Tufts University Tisch College’s Center for State Policy Analysis (cSPA), will share key takeaways and analysis from cSPA's 2026 ballot question reports and answer your questions. Learn more about what's on the ballot this November and how it could impact you before you cast your vote.
cSPA provides rigorous, timely, non-partisan research on policy issues in Massachusetts. Explore cSPA’s report summaries on the 2026 Massachusetts ballot questions.

Grandfamilies:
Rising to the Challenge of Raising Another
Today, 2.5 million children live in grandfamilies, or families headed by grandparents, aunts and uncles, siblings, or close family friends. A recent report by Generations United found that grandfamilies save taxpayers more than $10 billion each year by keeping children out of foster care.
In her new book, Grandfamilies: Stories of Children and the Loving Relatives Who Raise Them, Donna Butts explores the unique
challenges, resilience, and successes of grandfamilies through the stories of caregivers and the children they raise. This session will use these stories to highlight how public policy and perceptions of grandfamilies and kinship care have changed over the past 30 years, and what more is needed to help these families thrive.
About the presenter: Donna Butts is an award-winning nonprofit executive, author, and nationally recognized advocate for intergenerational solutions that benefit children, youth, older adults, and families. For more than twenty-seven years, Donna served as Executive Director of Generations United, a national nonprofit dedicated to strengthening communities and families through intergenerational policy and practice.
This is a free, Osher Online Community Event open to any current OLLI member. We are grateful to the Osher National Resource Center at Northwestern University in making this program available to OLLI members.

Wellness Checks with UMass Boston Nursing Students
OLLI at UMass Boston continues to support the university's undergraduate nursing education through Wellness Check sessions.
These presentations are aimed to help third-year nursing students develop knowledge, skills and attitudes in health promotion, psychosocial interventions, and disease prevention for individuals across the life span.
Four groups of nursing students have been given topics to explore, research, and create presentations to be delivered to OLLI members. These are great intergenerational opportunities that allow both populations to learn from one another.
The four topics are outlined to the left and are included in the listing and descriptions of this fall's OLLI Talks. The presentations will be held online via Zoom and in some instances, can be watched at the UMass Boston campus and/or the Thayer Public Library in Braintree.

Participants will:
- Access a mindfulness program via YouTube using one of the proposed app interfaces
- Complete one 10-15 minute session each day for 8 days
- Receive up to a $40 gift card

Dementia Caregiver Research Study
Are you a caregiver for an individual living with dementia? Or know someone who is? Do you or they use a smartphone?
If so, consider participating in a current research study at UMass Boston that aims to develop a mindfulness app for caregivers to help manage the stress of caring for someone with dementia.
While mindfulness training has been shown to reduce stress, many caregivers are unable to attend in-person programs due to time and caregiving demands. Mobile mindfulness apps may offer a more flexible and accessible alternative.
Questions? Want to participate?
Contact Katherine Richman via email or phone (617.876.0667). This research study is open to the public; you do not need to be an OLLI member to participate.

Winter Program Ideas Wanted
OLLI will be offering winter programs in January and February. Event ideas are currently being explored and scheduled, including the annual OLLI Winter Film Series. A tentative listing of events will be released in mid-December.
Given the chances of poor weather, programs will be held virtually via Zoom. If you have a suggestion of a presenter for our winter session, please let us know by emailing OLLI Director Jim Hermelbracht.
