I am incredibly excited for the start of the 24/25 school year and having 44 new student faces (9th Grade and Transfers) join the Saints Family. As well, I’m thrilled to introduce you to a few new members of the VCHS team.
Ryan Hart will serve as Director of Sports Medicine (including Athletic Trainer) and Sports Medicine Teacher. He holds a BS in Athletic Training and Health, Physical Education, Recreation from Delta State University. He previously served in a similar role at Mount Vernon School in Atlanta, Georgia. Ryan is married to Jessica and they recently relocated to Eagle County.
Daniel Hartmann will teach Psychology and DE US Government and also serve as PLuS Coordinator (Purpose, Service, Leadership) in a part-time capacity. He holds a BA in World History and American Political Science from University of California San Diego and a MEd in Education from National University. He has held teaching roles at Vail Mountain School and Shanghai High School (China). Ryan is married to Delaney.
Cassandra Irving will teach AP World History and AP US History. She holds a BA in Communications from Grand Canyon University and a ThM from Tyndale University. She is pursuing her MA in American History at Gettysburg College-Gilder Lehrman. As a Glenwood Springs native, she has served as a Social Studies Teacher at Glenwood Springs Middle School since 2019. Cassandra is married to Mike and they have four children, including their youngest Susie who will join the VCHS Class of 2026.
Miles McKinney will teach Algebra I, Algebra II, and co-teach Foundations of Algebra with Mr. Jager. He holds a BS in Aviation (Professional Pilot) from Henderson State University. Since 2019, he has been a high school Math Teacher in Texas (Borger and Frisco) and at Eagle Valley High School. In Texas, Miles coached football and wrestling. He is married to Emily.
Hector Soto will serve as Campus Manager overseeing custodial and maintenance work. Since 2017, he has owned, Sky High Works, a local construction remodeling company. Hector is a long-time valley local moving here in 1993. He is married to Yulia and has seven children (ranging in age from 12-30). His daughter, Yeva, is a member of the VCHS Class of 2027.
Betsy Van Beek will teach AP English Language and AP English Literature. Dr. Van Beek holds these degrees: BA in English Literature and Creative Writing from Middlebury College, MA in Linguistics and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Ball State University, and an EdD in Educational Studies in Innovation and Reform from University of Northern Colorado. She has previously taught at Battle Mountain High School (2007-2017) and as an adjunct faculty at University of Northern Colorado and Indiana Wesleyan University. She is married to Steve and has two children Michael (4th grade) and Sarah (1st grade).
Not only will there be new faces, but also a few new (and returning) course offerings launching this fall. New semester courses include: Entrepreneurial Leadership (Mrs. Hochtl) and Eagle County History (Mr. O’Neil). Courses returning after a year or more of hibernation include: Sports Medicine (Mr. Hart), Psychology (Mr. Hartmann), DE Principles of Engineering (Mrs. O’Neil), AP Computer Science (Mr. Pyke), DE Spanish Literature (Mrs. Venz), and AP Biology (Mrs. Wiebe).
