Dear EEO Bahamas Supporters,

This fall marked a powerful turning point for EEO. We joyfully closed our 25th year—celebrated together at the Dunmore and Potlatch—honoring how far this work has come and the many hands that carried it there. At the same time, we launched the Family Island Partnership, opening an exciting new chapter rooted in possibility and shared responsibility. Now, halfway through a school year that is already proving to be especially meaningful, our classrooms are full of energy, connection, and progress.

From field trips and screenings to hands-on professional development, our focus has been on strengthening inclusive practice and building local capacity—deepening training and ongoing support for teachers. This momentum belongs to all of you. To our teachers, families, partners, and supporters—thank you for believing in what’s possible and helping this work grow.

A Night to Remember

On November 22, EEO returned to where it all began, hosting Briland Roots, Brilliant Future at The Dunmore Hotel on Harbour Island, our final celebration marking 25 years of commitment to students and families across The Bahamas. What started years ago under a tree in a schoolyard came full circle in an evening made possible by generous sponsors and local donors, filled with music by The Brilanders, vibrant student and Junkanoo performances, laughter, and a powerful spirit of community.

Funds raised directly support special education and intervention programs across the Family Islands, placing materials into classrooms and training into the hands of teachers. Rooted in our past and reaching forward together, we carry this momentum into the future with hope, purpose, and gratitude.

Partner Spotlight

Connecting with the Friends of Exuma

In mid-December, Lang connected with one of EEO’s newest partners, the Friends of Exuma (FOE). Through this partnership, EEO supports three special education teachers across six schools, reaching nearly 100 students with literacy and numeracy intervention. We are grateful for FOE’s warm welcome and belief in our work and look forward to growing this partnership in support of Exuma’s students, families, and future.

Building Bridges Program

Supporting Haitian Students

On November 19, EEO hosted a virtual professional development session led by Ms. Nadeige Theresias Joisil of Sant La, focused on supporting Haitian Creole–speaking students in inclusive classrooms. Educators from across The Bahamas explored practical strategies such as bilingual word posters, native language support, and strengthening family communication. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and EEO is excited to welcome Ms. Theresias Joisil back in February for an in-person seminar on Eleuthera.

Success Story

Pictured is the result of long-standing partnerships with therapists and medical professionals that allow EEO to respond when a child needs more support. Through multiple EEO hearing screenings, it became clear that Jay was experiencing hearing loss that was worsening over time. With the guidance and expertise of audiologist Dr. Kim Scrivins, Jay was fitted for hearing aids, and EEO was able to cover the cost. This moment reflects a careful, collaborative approach built over many years—one that continues, again and again, to help remove barriers to learning when they arise.
