“Awareness is the first step in healing.”

The human body is not an instrument to be used, but a realm of one’s being to be experienced, explored, enriched and, thereby, educated.” -Thomas Hanna,

Dear Student,

I hope you are doing well.

This is my annual reminder that amidst the momentum of summer—with its activity, travel, and shifting routines—there’s value in staying connected to what supports you beneath the surface.

As many of you have experienced, the benefits of this work—less tension, more ease, and a clearer sense of movement—often begin subtly. But they deepen with consistency.

This season isn’t about working harder. It’s about sustaining the progress you’ve made and continuing to build a strong foundation, so that the improvements you've felt don’t fade when life speeds up.

These offerings below are here to help you stay steady through the season. Whether you're returning after time away or continuing the work you began this spring, you’ll find options that meet you where you are.

The Quiet Thread: Rethinking Movement from the Inside Out

“In an age of speed, I began to think, nothing could be more invigorating than going slow. In an age of distraction, nothing can feel more luxurious than paying attention. And in an age of constant movement, nothing is more urgent than sitting still.”

— Pico Iyer, (Goodreads)

We often talk about movement as if it's a test of discipline or a path to performance. Even in yoga—especially in fitness settings—the emphasis can easily shift toward form, achievement, or simply keeping up. But beneath that pace and pressure, there’s another current—quieter, but no less powerful.

Steady Through the Season: Summer 2025 Yoga + Movement Class Series

Summer can be invigorating—but it can also scatter attention, disrupt rhythm, and leave the body quietly working overtime just to keep pace.

These small group classes offer a steady, supportive container to help you restore balance, deepen awareness, and move through daily life with greater ease.

By giving your nervous system the space to reset before tension becomes your baseline, you create the conditions to meet stress differently: with more clarity, calm, and choice.

We don’t focus on pushing or performing. We focus on refining how you move and feel in your body—building strength, resilience, and adaptability that supports both activity and recovery.

This is the quiet foundation of a more easeful, sustainable movement life—a way to stay connected to what’s already working and gently build from there.

The Summer 2025 Yoga and Movement classes series begins Sunday, May 25 and runs for nine weeks through Wednesday, July 30, with a scheduled break from July 1–7.

Posture + Pain: Saturday Somatic Posture Class – Ongoing

For many, a meaningful life begins with a simple desire: to walk more freely, play with grandkids, golf with friends, or just move through the day without the dull background noise of pain or tension.

This ongoing Saturday 9:30am Yoga and Somatic Movement Class is designed to support exactly that kind of return—to function, to ease, to the things that matter most.

Rooted in a postural paradigm, the class explores how the body holds itself in space—and how long-standing imbalances and compensation patterns can quietly contribute to pain, stiffness, and limited movement.

The work is infused with somatic movement practices that help retrain these patterns at the level of the nervous system. Rather than pushing or stretching, we use gentle, intentional movement to reorganize how the body functions.

Over time, students often notice improved alignment, less strain, and greater comfort—not just in class, but in the everyday things they want to keep doing.

Symptom relief becomes a beginning—not the end goal, but a foundation for a more sustainable and responsive movement life.

Private Sessions: Personalized Movement, Practical Relief

For those navigating more persistent challenges—chronic pain, injury recovery, or movement limitations—private sessions offer an individualized path forward.

Together, we look at your movement history, compensation patterns, and nervous system responses to understand how your body has adapted—and how it might begin to move with less strain and more clarity.

We work toward your goals and within your limits, helping you refine how you move and feel by learning to move withyour body, not against it.

This is a step-by-step process, grounded in your goals and designed to support sustainable, long-term change.

Sessions typically include a movement assessment, program development or refinement, individualized instruction, and a recording or resources for home use—so you can continue the work between sessions at your own pace.

A Final Thought on Staying Connected

Earlier this year, I wrote about willingness—the quiet beginning of authentic change, and how meeting ourselves honestly is what makes real progress possible.

Now, as summer approaches with all its energy and unpredictability, that same willingness becomes something else: a way to stay connected. Not by clinging to routines, but by choosing—even briefly—to return to what steadies and sustains you.

Change doesn’t always require intensity. Sometimes it simply asks us to keep showing up, even when life gets loud. To remember that movement, breath, and awareness aren’t just tools for recovery, but a foundation for resilience.

What you return to now becomes part of what carries you forward. I hope you’ll join me this season in that spirit.

As always, thank you for your interest and support of this work. I look forward to seeing you soon.

Namaste,

Alan
