SUBMIT YOUR SURVEY ON-LINE OR ON PAPER BY SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11

Before the Search Committee engages in a formal process of looking for a new Rector, it's necessary to fully understand and appreciate the wants and needs of the members of the Church of the Resurrection in their next pastoral leader.

The Search Committee has prepared a survey that asks several questions about our congregation's current ministry and your own involvement. It also seeks your input on pastoral leadership and your vision for Resurrection's future.

There are 36 questions in the survey divided into seven sections:

  1. Your Church Participation (13 questions)
  2. Your Stewardship (2 questions)
  3. Your Worship Preferences (2 questions)
  4. Your Priorities for the Church of the Resurrection (1 question)
  5. The Qualities you desire in our next Rector (8 questions)
  6. The Future of the Church of the Resurrection (2 questions)
  7. Background Information about Yourself (8 questions)

We ask each member of your household 16 years of age and older complete the survey. The survey should take most people no longer than 30 minutes.

Make sure your voice is heard.

Please return the completed survey by Sunday, September 11.

The Committee will then analyze the results and make a presentation on the findings to the congregation on Sunday, October 2 between services during the First Sunday Breakfast.

Click here to submit your survey on-line

Click here to print a copy of the survey

Please note, if you complete your survey on paper that Questions 12 and 20 ask you to rank your top three choices only (one choice per column.)

If you complete the paper survey, please return it to the church in an anonymous envelope marked "Parish Survey" so that your responses can be recorded manually. Surveys may be returned in the offering plate on Sunday. Do not submit a paper survey if you have filled out the survey on-line.

Please see a member of the Search Committee if you have any questions.

PREPARING FOR LIFE'S TRANSITIONS

My time with Resurrection parish is fast coming to a close. As I reflect on these last few years in my journey as a priest and especially with all of you, I am reminded of the kindness and hospitality that Debbie and I feel each time we meet and celebrate together in our parish.

Planning for transitions in our lives is a bittersweet experience and, in many cases, weighs heavy on our hearts. Debbie has been a church musician and organist since she was twelve years old and as she makes her transition into retirement, like me, it will be full of mixed yet wonderful memories. I will miss all aspects of parish ministry and know it will be difficult to adjust to a different routine.

We all experience “transition” times in our lives and these transitions are better experienced when we take the time to prepare for them. We do not always know what tomorrow will bring especially regarding our health and wellbeing as we age.  As part of my priestly duties as your rector, it is important to encourage you to plan for future transitions in your lives. Know that the parish is poised to help you celebrate the many important transitions that occur in family circumstances. I encourage all of us to take advantage of the resources offered that include:

Preparing for your celebration of life upon the occasion of your death:

  • Meeting with your pastor to identify your desires for services to allow people to celebrate you and pay respect to you for your life in our community, specifically planning the celebration service, including your desire for music, scripture readings, and other specifics important to you.
  • Your pastor has a template specifically for collecting all the information that will help you plan your funeral and burial. This includes meeting with you and your family at a time you choose to address your wishes and desires.
  • Considering your final resting place is also a ministry of Resurrection as you may consider a niche in the parish columbarium or inurement in the memorial garden.
  • I personally have planned my life celebration and it is filed in the church office for when that time comes.

Preparing your financial future:

  • Estate planning with professionals who can help you map out your financial future helps alleviate the concerns for what happens to your estate.
  • Considerations for Endowments and a perpetual way to support the missions of Resurrection:  Resurrection can also be a gift for you as you consider endowing estate funds for the perpetuity of the church’s mission and service as the Body of Christ.

Preparing for your wishes at the time or your death:

  • It is so important that your family knows your wishes upon the time of your passing.
  • Along with any estate planning, please take the time to consider establishing a Living Will where you can declare and identify the specifics of the outcomes of your estate.
  • Consider an “Advanced Directive” that helps your family and health care providers know you wishes upon your death, especially concerning resuscitation, and any life prolonging situations.
  • “The Five Wishes” - In addition to formally meeting with a health care advocate, consider using the following online reference to living wills and health care directives as a resource for answering questions and getting started with your final wishes: Five Wishes - A Living Will Document

We don’t necessarily want to think of or consider the decisions that need to be made to help in our passing because of the uncertainty and pain it may bring us. Knowing that your family and friends can know your wishes and expectations before that inevitable time comes can be a real emotional relief for both you and your family. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any of this and specially to help you in your planning.

Most sincerely, Fr. David+
