Help CMU Reach 300,000 Meals With Just 2 and ½ Weeks To Go!

Carnegie Mellon's 33rd Annual Food Drive, sponsored by Staff Council, has passed its midpoint, and we're grateful to everyone who has given so far. Our goal is $100,000, enough to provide up to 300,000 meals for neighbors across Greater Pittsburgh this holiday season.

Make your donation today!

We're currently at $44,128 and need to reach $51,000 by this Friday, Oct. 23, to stay on track. This may seem ambitious, but we CAN do it! Every gift counts: $10 provides about 30 meals.

"Each year, we are inspired by the way our students, faculty and staff demonstrate such deep care and support for our community through the Food Drive," said Provost Jim Garrett, the drive's honorary chair.

"This annual campus-wide initiative serves as a powerful reminder of our campus's core values and commitment to the region."

A tradition that keeps growing

Our first drive in 1994 collected 1,355 pounds of nonperishables for Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Through 2025, this community has given a cumulative $743,054 and 81.6 tons of food. Our partners at the food bank tell us Carnegie Mellon runs the highest-grossing food drive of any single organization in the city. Last year's drive raised a record amount of over $128K (including cash and nonperishables converted to dollars)!

Can openers for CMU students

We're also collecting manual can openers for the Carnegie Mellon student food pantry. So far, we have only 36 can openers toward our goal of 250. You can:

  • Drop them off at the Parking Office Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Hand them to your team leader.

  • Bring them to Fall Fest on Oct. 28 or the Benefits & Fitness Fair on Nov. 4.

  • Contact committee chair Carole Panno to arrange another option.

For more than three decades, this community has shown up for its neighbors. Let's make year 33 one to remember!
