The Poetry of Human Rights

A Selection of Poetry Inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by High School Students from around the World, from Jordan to the Philippines to Guatemala

I am a lion because i’m strong

I am nothing

I think i don’t trust the things that disappear

Because, I have learned how silence swallows what I hold dear

Now i know the dark does not ask before it takes

You will see me, not the roar, but what it hides

Not the strength, but what divides the part of me i never show

Together we will write something

Piece by piece and line by line

Until “the nothing" we find -

Until the words we cannot say

Become the ones that choose to stay
