BeingwellCA
"May Is Mental Health Month — And We’re Just Getting Started"
(Featuring BeingwellCA's Greet Lafayette Cover Story)
Throughout the month, our team will be on the ground across California:
- Delivering Trauma-Informed Crisis Response training to teachers, so that the first adult a student confides in is prepared to listen with empathy and act with care.
- Speaking directly with high school students about mental health, anxiety, depression, and suicide prevention — in ways that are honest, hopeful, and relatable.
- Continuing our statewide push for the California Mental Health Awareness License Plate, a campaign that invites every driver to help bring mental health into the light — even if just a traffic light.
It’s always the right time to check on someone. Not just in May.
At BeingwellCA, we make it a point to show up — even when the conversation is hard.
Because as we often say:
“We talk to strangers… it’s kinda our thing.”
We’re honored to be featured on the cover of Greet Lafayette this month, and even prouder to stand with schools, students, and families who are ready to change the way we talk about mental health."
Be well,
Graham Wiseman, CEO & Co-founder

Sweet Thursday Author Series at the Lafayette Library
Sweet Thursday presents Thomas Fuller.
Thursday, May 15, 6:30pm at the Lafayette Library.
The Boys of Riverside by Thomas Fuller looks back at the historic 2021 and 2022 seasons in which the California School for the Deaf chased history. It followed the personal journeys of their dynamic deaf head coach, and a student who spent the majority of the season sleeping in his father’s car in the Target parking lot. It tells the story of a fiercely committed player who literally played through a broken leg in order not to miss a crucial game, as well as a myriad other heart-wrenching and uplifting narratives of players who found common purpose. Through their eyes, Fuller reveals a portrait of high school athletics, inspiring camaraderie, and deafness in America.
This is a free event, but registration is required at www.tinyurl.com/sweet-May2025. The doors will open at 6:30 for coffee and sweets. Books will be available for purchase. The program is offered by The Friends of the Lafayette Library.

Sunday Swing Golf
Things are going great over at Sunday Swing and they wanted to tell you about a new and exciting recent development…Sunday Swing Youth Foundation. Their newly formed foundation is built with the sole purpose of growing the game golf with our local youth communities.
Why Golf Matters for Youth Development:
Golf is much more than a sport. It’s a powerful tool for character development, instilling qualities like discipline, patience, and perseverance. For young players, golf offers a unique opportunity to:
• Develop Personal Responsibility: The individual nature of golf teaches young players how to set goals, manage time, and hold themselves accountable.
• Learn Social Skills: Golf provides an environment for youth to practice communication, respect for others, and good sportsmanship, skills that will serve them well in their academic, professional, and personal lives.
• Promote Physical and Mental Health: Beyond physical fitness, golf encourages mental focus, stress management, and emotional resilience, all of which contribute to a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle.
• Cultivate Inclusivity: The sport’s accessibility makes it ideal for youth of all backgrounds and skill levels to come together, fostering a sense of belonging in the community.
Their first fundraising event will happen May 19th at Stonebrae Country Club. This golf tournament will serve as a platform for young players to develop their skills while also emphasizing the life lessons that golf instills.
They are excited about the positive impact this event can have, and they would love your help us in their mission to grow the game of golf for the next generation.

White Pony Express
White Pony Express (WPE), a leader in food recovery and distribution, is urgently calling on the community to help bridge a critical funding gap due to cuts in federal support. With 1 in 5 people in our community facing hunger and meal costs at a 20-year high, WPE remains steadfast in its commitment to providing fresh, healthy food deliveries to more than 100 nonprofits serving our most vulnerable community members. With government funding reductions threatening one-third of WPE’s budget, the organization must raise $350,000 by May 31 to support ongoing services and fresh food distributions.
Every day, WPE rescues fresh, surplus food, and sorts, curates, and delivers it to 100+ nonprofit partners, ensuring no good food goes to waste. Despite the abundance of surplus food, only 2% is currently donated, which presents a massive opportunity to expand food access. As WPE works to scale its service model, the need for local partnerships and donor support has never been greater.
🔹 Donate today to help WPE reach its $350,000 goal: whiteponyexpress.org/donate
🔹 Spread the word by sharing WPE’s work on social media and through your networks.
🔹 Get involved through volunteer opportunities and partnerships.

NORSLED, Northern California Sled Dog Rescue
"Hello! I’m Brulee. I’m about 5 years old and weigh 62 lbs. For the past three years, I’ve been bouncing between boarding facilities and temporary foster homes—waiting, hoping, and staying strong. I’ve been so patient, but my heart and I are READY for something more permanent. Everyone who meets me says I’m such a good girl. But don’t just take my word for it—here’s what my current temp foster parents have to say about me: "Brulee is such a laid-back, mellow sweetheart. We’ve truly loved having her with us, and if our own dog weren’t so high-energy, we’d happily keep her ourselves. Here’s what we’ve noticed about her in the past few weeks she’s been with us:
✅ Incredibly sweet and affectionate. Loves belly rubs!
✅ No howling, excessive barking, digging, or attempts to escape the yard
✅ Bonds quickly with people and quietly follows them around the house
✅ Great with respectful kids who understand her boundaries
✅ Would thrive as an only dog or with one who is calm and well-mannered
✅ Friendly with new dogs—she’ll give a polite sniff, then move along
✅ Loves curling up at our feet during conference calls
✅ Enjoys soaking up the sun in the backyard while we garden
✅ A big fan of walks—especially with her no-pull harness, she’s a breeze on leash
✅ Takes treats gently and politely from our hands
✅ We’re working on introducing her to the joy of toys—we think she’s getting there!"
So… what do you think? Will you offer this tired girl a warm, loving place to call home? Will you open your heart—and your home—to me?"
Applications to adopt are on NORSLED's website: www.norsled.org.❤️🏠🐾
