Ready for Bold Leaps in 2020?
Greetings!

Happy New Year!

Predictions for the new decade say it will be revolutionary! Small and mid-size businesses should expect to make changes and innovations in response to pressures on many fronts.

  • Economic uncertainty
  • Pressures on planet health
  • Shifting demographics
  • Making sense of the opportunities and risks of advanced technologies especially Artificial Intelligence

We all see the results of these pressures on our smaller local businesses.

  • Brick and mortar businesses are continuing to close
  • Costs keep rising for labor and commercial space
  • Prolonged power outages crush business earnings
  • Property owners taxed for NOT leasing retail space in San Francisco

Business owners, contractors and professional practices are an ambitious and determined population. My first priority in 2020 is to provide practical options and tools to owners on how to thrive and grow in this challenging environment. Well thought out bold moves are key to sustaining and growing your business now.

On February 4, join a webinar Working Through Bold Growth Moves to learn from the experience of Debbie Pfisterer, CEO of Blue Heron Catering, Inc.
When Debbie has a visionary goal in her mind, she hits it! She is taking a bold move to open the Cannery Kitchen & Taps as the anchor restaurant in the new Castro Valley Market Place.

After years in catering, Debbie made a leap to launch a restaurant, the Cannery Café in Hayward. She created a memorable customer experience for over five years. The restaurant recently closed due to conditions beyond her control but Debbie already had her next bold move in the pipeline.

Learn from her answers to key questions like:

• How do you spot a valuable growth opportunity?
• What turns a business expansion idea into a success story?
• How do I manage the risks of expansion, funding and customer loyalty?

Goals for 2020
Art Teaches Us How to Take Creative Leaps:

A number of art exhibits, events and conversations over 2019 energized my creative side. It has been wonderful. In January, I saw a double-sided mural in Hawaii. I couldn't imagine what a double-sided mural looked like. Then saw the murals and yes, the artists just painted on the back of a mural that was funded to address public health needs of the local and indigenous communities.

I attended a panel where the artists who created the double-sided mural talked about how the back side of the mural came about. The first mural told the story of the cultural origins and values of Hawaii in beautiful colors you would expect to see. However, three of the six artists believed that the historical pain of the local populations had to be illustrated also. So they flipped the mural over and told the story that is rarely spoken of on that side. It was the most powerful illustration I have seen on Hawaii. In December, I connected with artists in San Francisco who are trying to revitalize creative arts through entrepreneurship. I was so pleased be to see artists doing great work and staying in SF.

Plans for 2020 are to share more content and launch business growth programming around the following themes:

Q1: Increasing Economic Clout for SMEs with a focus on value creation
Q2: Diving into Funding
Q3: Business, People and Advanced Technologies
Q4: Get Ready for 2021!

All the best to you in 2020!
