Principal's Message...

Greetings, Timmons Families.

Spring is here! Or is it? We would not know it by some of the weather this week. April is recognized as Volunteer Recognition Month. We are extremely appreciative of the many volunteers who support our school. Whether you have assisted the PTO, were a mystery reader, or completed individual tasks from home to support a teacher at Timmons, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

As we continue to progress through April, our expectations for our students remain high. Our third graders began their state testing this week and will continue through the beginning of May. We will also be administering our spring benchmark assessments through IReady and Dibels. The building will be busy with our first and second grade showcases. Families will receive invitations for those events. Please continue to stay connected with your child's teacher. We will provide additional information on how you can support your child through the summer months. That information will be shared via email and on our website as we approach the end of the year. Additionally, we hope that you will be able to visit the Fine Art Showcase the week of April 28th. Every student will have a piece of artwork on display.

Finally, you should have received an email from the district providing you with information about the Rooms feature in the Kenston App. We encourage every family to join the Kenston App and utilize the Rooms feature, allowing you to stay updated and connected with your child's classroom. This feature will become our exclusive means of communication with families as we enter the next school year.

As always, thank you for your support! We are honored to work with your child on a daily basis.

Sincerely,

Dave Rogaliner

Timmons is a Hall of Fame School!

The Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators (OAESA) announced that Timmons Elementary School in the Kenston Local School District has been selected as a 2025 OAESA Hall of Fame School.

The Hall of Fame School Award recognizes schools that engage faculty, students, and the community to provide a quality school experience. This year, several school staff members submitted a comprehensive application documenting the effectiveness of our educational program in various areas, which also included an on-site evaluation. Timmons Elementary School will be recognized in June at the OAESA Professional Conference.

We are tremendously proud of this achievement and commend our teachers and staff for their commitment to educational excellence.

Congratulations again to our entire Timmons staff and administration on this achievement!

Sharing Our Hard Work and Growth with Loved Ones

On April 11th, first graders welcomed special guests for a memorable VIP Day. These "VIPs" got a taste of first grade from their student guide. Students and VIPs had some comparison activities to complete, including a Venn Diagram comparing first grade now to first grade in the past. Students also taught their VIPs how to play math games and showed off their reading skills by reading books and poems. Students even shared their knowledge of early world civilizations. We loved having our guests join us to experience all that we have learned this year.

Recognizing the Talent

of Aspiring Chefs

This year's Kenston Cooks competition was a tremendously yummy success! Young chefs in grades 2-5 competed to create a sandwich that showcased originality, taste, and plate presentation. All contestants worked hard, had fun, and left with cherished memories with their families! Third grader William Babulski impressed the judges with his Turkey Lavash Wrap, while fifth grader Winter Doersen won them over with her Nutella Strawberry Croissant. All participants received a medal and a certificate for a job well done!

Taking Our Learning Outdoors!

The third grade scientists took a field trip to the West  Woods Nature Park to explore Geauga County rock and soil formations. They began in the Nature Center, where hands-on activities allowed the students to identify sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks and learn about their formation. They put together models of how Geauga County once was an ocean, traveled through the Ice Age, and eventually formed the land we live on today. Next, they went on a 2-mile hike to Ansel's Cave, where they viewed geologic features of a bedrock outcropping. They identified the layers of sedimentary rock, looked for salamanders in the stream, and watched a waterfall that disappears as summer approaches. It was a wonderfully enriching experience for our third-grade scientists!

Thinking about the Future...

Spring has sprung, which means our school counselors will be focusing lessons on college and career readiness for grades K-3. Following the Ohio learning standards, each grade level will become familiar with careers through developmentally appropriate lessons. These lessons are designed to build a foundation of understanding and awareness of self interests and how these interests can connect with future career goals.

In other news from our counselors: Did you know the PEAK Ambassadors are continuing their quest to spread kindness, not only in our school but in our community as well. We are decorating take out coffee sleeves with kind words, pictures and inspirational sayings. We are then donating the coffee sleeves to our local coffee shops in the hopes of brightening someone’s day.

Indoor Recess Carts in Action...

Many thanks to our PTO for the incredible pod carts. Not only have they provided entertainment during rainy indoor recess days, they have also brought excitement to the classrooms. We are so grateful for all of the work that went into building these engaging carts!
