March 2025

March is National Arts Education Month AND Music in our Schools Month, making it a perfect time to share with you a dynamic person who is making music happen in schools all across Northern California, and across the country! We are also proud to call her an ACPC Board Member: J Ross is a performance artist, and operator of Beats Lyrics Leader (BLL) which runs Hip Hop Education and Arts-Integrated Entrepreneurship programs within our schools and communities, including the Creative Economy Entrepreneurship Initiative with the City of Roseville. Beats Lyrics Leaders is currently training artists to get in to the classrooms and serve over 50 schools between Placer County and Yolo County. Learn more at the bottom of this newsletter.

Sierra College is proud to announce a new online ticket system and their Spring Performance Schedule. March kicks off the lineup with the Faculty performance, then enjoy piano, jazz and more through May. See the schedule at:  onthestage.tickets/sierra-music

Arts education is important for students, helping them develop critical thinking, creativity, and cultural awareness. It can also improve mental health and academic performance. An analysis of U.S. Department of Education data by UCLA researcher James Catterall found that students who were highly involved in the arts performed better on a variety of academic measures than other students: grade point averages, standardized test score, lower drop-out rates, and better attitudes about community service.

How can you help students get an arts education? Find out at the CreateCA.org website: CreateCA.org

Meet Artist

J Ross

Beats Lyrics Leaders (BLL) is a music program for students, and also an outlet for young adults and youth to help them be the best they can possibly be. Students explore beat making, lyric writing, and recording in a way that anyone can understand so that students can find their passion and skills within our Creative Economy. The number one mission is to encourage viable Communities. The vision is to see students be their ultimate selves.

Using music, "the primary goal of the BLL program is to provide mentorship, 'tools for your back pocket', confidence boost, and allow the students the opportunity to take healthy risks and know what it feels like to accomplish goals."
