Driving Opportunity Newsletter - June 2026

Dear CCF Community,

Welcome to the June edition of the Cameron Champ Foundation newsletter. This month, we're celebrating a memorable and eventful Mack Champ Invitational weekend.

Inside this issue, you'll meet our 2026 Mack Champ Invitational champions, Jordan Ofahengaue and Muci Guo, through a special Opportunity in Action feature that explores the journeys behind their victories. We'll also share highlights and photos from tournament week, recognize the many people who helped make the event possible, and celebrate a major milestone from Cameron Champ Foundation alum Vidhi Lakhawala, whose recent victory at the Nelly Invitational earned her a spot in the 2027 Chevron Championship.

As always, we remain grateful to our supporters, partners, volunteers, and families who help us create pathways of opportunity for young people through golf, education, and mentorship. Thank you for being part of the journey.

With gratitude,

The Cameron Champ Foundation Team

"As someone who was born and raised in Houston, it was special to compete at Memorial Park Golf Course. Even with the weather challenges, the experience was unforgettable. The competition, the friendships, and the inspiring message shared at the Welcome Dinner made it a week I'll always appreciate."

— Christian Lara, 2026 Mack Champ Invitational Participant

The 2026 Mack Champ Invitational weekend was a testament to the resilience, perseverance, and sportsmanship of the remarkable young athletes who traveled to Houston, both locally and from across the country, to compete.

Despite multiple weather delays, schedule adjustments, and challenging course conditions, players, families, volunteers, and staff remained flexible and determined throughout the week. Thanks to their patience and commitment, the Mack Champ Invitational was successfully completed, featuring not only outstanding golf but also the character and resilience that define our community.

Congratulations to our 2026 champions, Jordan Ofahengaue (-5) and Muci Guo (+1), whose performances rose above a demanding week at Memorial Park Golf Course. Their victories represent more than exceptional play—they reflect the dedication, preparation, and perseverance required to succeed when conditions are far from ideal.

While weather ultimately forced the cancellation of the MCI Showcase, it could not diminish the impact of the weekend. We are deeply grateful to every player, parent, volunteer, AJGA staff member, sponsor, and supporter who weathered the uncertainty with patience, positivity, and grace. Your willingness to adapt and support one another allowed us to finish the Invitational and continue creating meaningful opportunities for young people through golf.

At the Cameron Champ Foundation, we believe opportunity is built through experiences that challenge young people to grow both on and off the course. This year's Mack Champ Invitational provided plenty of those moments, and we are proud of the way our participants responded.

None of this would have been possible without the support of the many organizations and individuals who believe in creating pathways of opportunity for young people through golf.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the Astros Golf Foundation, whose vision, partnership, and unwavering commitment to the game continue to make opportunities like the Mack Champ Invitational possible. Hosting our championship at Memorial Park Golf Course—a premier municipal venue and home of the Texas Children's Houston Open—provides an unforgettable experience for our participants and elevates the event in meaningful ways. We are honored to partner with an organization that shares our belief in the power of golf to inspire, develop, and create opportunities for young people.

We are equally grateful to our global partner, Chevron, whose continued investment in youth development and commitment to expanding opportunity helps make the Mack Champ Invitational possible year after year. Their support enables us to create experiences that challenge, inspire, and empower the next generation both on and off the course.

We also thank Fortinet for their ongoing support of the championship and Babygrande Golf for their partnership throughout tournament week. From hosting our Parents Mixer to providing outstanding tournament coverage and player interviews, Babygrande Golf helped create opportunities for connection, engagement, and memorable experiences for players and families alike.

A special thank you goes to the AJGA staff, our dedicated volunteers, and the many families who generously gave their time, energy, and patience throughout a week filled with changing conditions and unexpected challenges. Your flexibility, professionalism, and commitment to the players never wavered.

If you haven't already, be sure to visit our social media channels for additional photos, videos, and player interviews from throughout the week.

Finally, to every player, parent, partner, volunteer, and supporter—thank you. Together, you helped make the 2026 Mack Champ Invitational more than a tournament. You helped create an experience that challenged young people to persevere, compete with integrity, and continue building confidence in their journey both on and off the course.

A Conversation About Success Beyond Golf

Tournament week began with practice rounds and our annual Welcome Dinner, where players and families gathered for an evening of connection, learning, and inspiration.

This year's panel discussion, Pathways to Success: What It Takes to Compete, Lead, and Thrive, featured an accomplished group of leaders from the worlds of professional sports, coaching, business, and philanthropy, including Bobby Bonilla, Brian White, Joanne Berglund, Leonard Smoot, Sam Wong, and moderator Jeff Champ.

Together, the panel explored the opportunities, challenges, and relationships that shaped their journeys, offering valuable insight into how young athletes can navigate setbacks, handle pressure, embrace growth, and build meaningful pathways to success both on and off the course. The discussion also highlighted the important role that parents, coaches, mentors, and community leaders play in helping young people reach their full potential.

We are deeply grateful to our panelists for sharing their time, wisdom, and personal experiences with our players and families. Their stories served as a powerful reminder that success is rarely a straight path—and that resilience, character, and the willingness to learn from others often make the greatest difference.

Opportunity in Action - by Muci Guo

"Believe in yourself, work hard, and enjoy the journey."

Since getting involved with the Cameron Champ Foundation, I have gained more confidence in myself and my abilities. I have learned how to handle challenges on and off the golf course, built friendships with other young golfers, and strengthened my belief that I can achieve my dreams. The experiences and support I have received have helped me set bigger goals for my future.

The Cameron Champ Foundation has provided me with opportunities to compete in tournaments, connect with mentors, and meet other talented young athletes who share similar goals. These experiences have helped me develop my game, gain valuable competitive experience, and grow both as a golfer and as a person.

Being part of this community means being surrounded by people who encourage and support one another. It means having a place where young athletes can learn, grow, and pursue their goals together. I am grateful to be part of a community that inspires me to keep improving every day.

My goal is to continue developing my game, play college golf at a top program, and eventually become a professional golfer. As I continue my journey, I also hope to give back by mentoring younger golfers and encouraging others to pursue their dreams, just as others have encouraged me.

I would tell junior golfers to take advantage of every opportunity the Cameron Champ Foundation offers. You will meet amazing people, learn valuable lessons, and gain experiences that can help you grow both in sports and in life. Believe in yourself, work hard, and enjoy the journey.

Opportunity in Action - by Jordan Ofahengaue

"The relationships we have built make it feel more like family than just another tournament."

Being part of the Cameron Champ Foundation has had a lasting impact on me both on and off the course. It has given me the chance to compete against some of the best junior golfers in the country on courses that carry real meaning for my family. Memorial Park stands out most because my older brother, KJ, won the Mack Champ Invitational there, and my cousin, Tony Finau, won the PGA Tour's Houston Open on that same course. Getting to compete somewhere that holds so much significance for my family and me has deepened my love for the game and given me a sense of pride and belonging that will always stay with me. None of it would have been possible without the Mack Champ Invitational.

This experience has changed my confidence and how I view the game. I used to think of golf as something I did and worked on by myself, but through the Foundation, I have experienced how powerful it is when players and families come together to support one another. I have become more self-assured, made genuine lifelong friendships, and grown to appreciate the people around me. Seeing how generously Jeff Champ and the Foundation give back to the community is an example that will stay with me forever. It is something I admire and hope to carry forward by giving back myself one day.

One of the most meaningful opportunities the Foundation created for me was the chance to compete in the Cisco Junior Series presented by the APGA Tour and the Cameron Champ Foundation. I competed against many of the best young players in the country, and while I did not come away with a win, I placed well and gained invaluable experience. My family and I are so grateful for everything that came with it—from playing challenging courses and testing myself against top competition to receiving the support and belief the Foundation showed in me by giving me the chance to compete at that level. It is an opportunity that pushed me to keep reaching higher.

Being part of this community means being part of something much bigger than golf. My family has been involved for years, and we have seen firsthand how it brings people together. Every year, we look forward to seeing our Cameron Champ family—from Jeff to the other players and their families—and the relationships we have built make it feel more like family than just another tournament.

My next goal is to compete in college golf, and the experiences I have had through the Foundation have helped me take real steps toward that dream. Competing on great courses against talented players has pushed me to improve, while the friendships I have made and the encouragement I have received have kept me motivated. That same drive shows up off the course, where I plan to push myself academically this upcoming year.

I encourage junior golfers to get involved with the Cameron Champ Foundation because the golf opportunities are incredible, but the friendships, mentorship, and sense of community are what make the experience truly special.

From the MCI to the Winner of the Nelly Invitational

We could not be more proud of MCI alumna Vidhi Lakhawala on her incredible victory at the Nelly Invitational presented by Chevron — earning her an exemption into the 2027 LPGA Chevron Championship, one of the biggest stages in women’s golf.

This is what pathways to opportunity look like.

Vidhi competed in the Mack Champ Invitational as a young junior golfer chasing big dreams. Today, she’s a champion at one of the most prestigious events in junior golf and is continuing her journey at Wake Forest University, Class of 2030.

At the Cameron Champ Foundation, we talk often about creating access, building pathways, and opening doors. Watching one of our own continue to rise through those pathways is incredibly special.

Vidhi once shared with us how meaningful her experience with the Cameron Champ Foundation had been in her journey. Seeing her now reach this milestone reminds us exactly why this work matters.

Do you have a story to share?

You are part of the Cameron Champ Foundation story — and we’d love to celebrate you.

Whether you’ve competed in one of our tournaments, received a scholarship, participated in our programs, or volunteered your time, your journey matters. We want to hear from college coaches too!

We know the impact doesn’t stop at one event — it continues in the connections made, confidence built, the goals achieved, and the doors that open next.

Your story may be featured on our website, social media, monthly newsletter, or Impact Report — helping inspire the next generation of young people stepping into opportunity.
