TRAILS & EVENTS
MAY 2026 | WEEK 3
| | |
You often hear us say that MORE builds, maintains, and advocates for public, sustainable, natural surface trails. But what does that mean?
Here are some numbers from 2025 that show our impact:
- 21 miles of new trail built
- 983 miles of trails stewarded
- 12,586 trail work hours
- 17,257 total volunteer hours
- 1,000+ unique volunteers
- 865 group rides
- Numerous trails maintained and refurbished
That means places to ride your bike, be with nature, and share the joy of being outdoors with loved ones. That means infrastructure for events like races and team practice. That means trail experiences for a variety of users and free spaces for the community. Your support makes it all possible. Thank you!

We're excited to share two advocacy wins in Prince George's County, Maryland and Fairfax County, Virginia!
In late 2023, we asked the mountain biking community to comment on Prince George's County plans for the newly acquired forest land in Upper Marlboro. Thanks to your advocacy, the county included trails and mountain biking access in their plans. The county crew got to work cutting new trails in the Charles Branch Natural Area, and in November 2025, MORE volunteers helped put finishing touches on a section of trail.
Phase 1 is complete and 5 new miles of trail are ready to ride in Charles Branch! The plan is to have 10 miles of trail in and connect Charles Branch to Rosaryville State Park.
Over in Fairfax County, MORE advocates have been pushing for a natural surface connector from Brookfield Park to the Gerry Connolly Cross Country Trail (CCT). Years of advocacy finally paid off after the county completed that connector a few months ago. Now, you can easily ride from Brookfield to Accotink and Wakefield.
The respective counties will be holding an official ribbon cutting for these new trails on June 6.

| WESTERN MD STATE FOREST PLANS | |
The Maryland Forest Service is seeking public comment on the proposed FY 2027 annual work plans for Chesapeake and Pocomoke State Forest, Potomac and Garrett State Forests, Savage River State Forest, and Green Ridge State Forest. Comments can be made until May 29 at 5 PM.
If you ride trails in Western MD forests, this is a great opportunity to thank the department for recent work on mountain biking trails and to let them know you support future trail improvements. Feel free to copy or personalize the message below.
- Thank you for improvements made on the mountain biking trail loop in Green Ridge State Forest and the bridge replacements in Garrett State Forest.
- The expanded and updated trails in the Margraff Plantation Trail System are a welcome addition and are already being well used by individual riders and organized groups. The 2-mile intermediate adaptive trail, first of its kind in a Maryland state forest, is providing opportunities for folks of all abilities to enjoy the outdoors.
- I support continued mountain biking trail maintenance and improvements made by the Maryland Forest Service and local trail volunteers.
