How Property Managers Are Bridging Language Gaps

For multifamily property managers, helping residents who do not speak English as their primary language is increasingly important to fostering long-term satisfaction and retention. Seeing this trend at play among some of our multifamily clients, Taylor Johnson recently pitched a story to Multi-Housing News about how owners and operators are adapting their hiring and communication strategies to bridge language gaps. In the resulting feature, TJ clients Habitat and Draper and Kramer, Incorporated shared how they balance technology and staff to make their communities more inclusive to non-native English speakers. Habitat's Hongchao Meng and Draper and Kramer's James Love both noted how multilingual team members bring cultural understanding, empathy and personal connections that translation technology alone cannot match. They also stressed the importance of continually evolving communication and engagement strategies to reflect changing community demographics to ensure all residents feel welcome, understood and supported.
