The Message this Week
Preaching Text: Genesis 27:1-4, 15-23; 28:10-17
Plenty of blessings to go around! But it sure doesn’t seem like the characters in our story know that. Isaac has twin sons and is planning to give his official blessing to the elder son, Esau. Working with his mother, the younger son, Jacob, steals the blessing. At the end of the story, both boys end up with very different blessings… which are exactly the blessings they are equipped to handle. But in the messy middle, it just doesn’t feel like there is enough to go around.
Gracious God, Your blessings are abundant and there are plenty for everyone. We remember that blessings don’t always look like blessings in the moment; sometimes they can even feel like a burden. Help us to trust and see what You have given us and to use it responsibly. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
