We believe that ending homelessness in Connecticut is possible—and together, as a united community, we can make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring.

Shelter Diversion is a proactive, strategic approach designed to prevent homelessness at the very onset of a housing crisis. By helping individuals and families identify safe, immediate alternatives to entering shelter, diversion empowers people to find sustainable housing solutions.

Collaboration across sectors—and effective resource mapping—are essential to this work. It’s through these partnerships and shared tools that we can better support individuals in connecting with long-term resources, minimizing their time without stable housing, and reducing the risk of future homelessness.

Diversion is a practice that can be implemented by anyone, at any time. This training will provide:

  • A comprehensive overview of Connecticut’s statewide diversion practices
  • Techniques for effective problem-solving conversations
  • Strategies to engage natural supports
  • Person-centered approaches to communication
  • Practical tools for resource mapping

Join us to strengthen your housing-focused conversations and enhance your ability to make a real impact in preventing homelessness.
