Note on COMMUNION FROM THE RESERVED SACRAMENT

In the Episcopal Church, only a priest is authorized to consecrate the elements of bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Our savior, Jesus Christ. However, in accordance with the Canons of The Episcopal Church, and of the Diocese of Idaho, if the rector or warden has been unable to find a supply priest for Sunday, and if the elements have already been consecrated by a priest at a previous service, then a deacon may distribute the pre-consecrated elements to the congregation. This service is called “Communion From the Reserved Sacrament.”

Our Bishop, Jos Tharakan, has granted Deacon Nancy Koonce the right to exercise this privilege whenever there is a 5th Sunday during this time of transition only. We have this guideline from the Bishop so that our congregation will not confuse the roles of priest and deacon, but continue to see them as two equal, but separate, ordained orders, each exercising two very distinct roles in the Church.

Forward Day by Day

Sunday October 25

The Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost

Matthew 22:37-39. "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind." This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

Jesus speaks these words in response to a trick question, quoting Deuteronomy and then following that verse with another one from Leviticus. I love that Jesus quotes scripture in response to someone trying to trip him up. He does the same thing when Satan tempts him in the wilderness.

Quoting scripture is a helpful line of first defense. Nervous about a job interview or a difficult conversation? Try, "God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but a spirit of power" (2 Timothy 1:7). Tempted to badmouth someone? "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds" (Romans 12:2). Scripture brings us added comfort, resolve, and reassurance. So read your Bible... and Forward Day by Day! God's word will be a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path (Psalm 119:105).
