You may now find a strategic planning webpage with feedback forms available on the LBS website. The page includes an overview of the process, timeline and key activities, current information and links to prior updates, and a brief set of questions to collect further input about all constituent experiences. These questions are the same ones that Jenn Desjarlais and Ed Hudner from Cambridge Hill Partners used to frame the recent focus groups and forum discussions conducted on campus. We encourage you to share your thoughts via the feedback forms before March 10.

MOCK TRIAL TEAM ENDS SEASON ON HIGH NOTE
After nearly five long months of legal preparation, Laguna Blanca’s Mock Trial Team – a Grades 9-12 student club – competed on Saturday, February 25 in the annual all-day Santa Barbara County Mock Trial competition at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse. This year’s Mock Trial Competition was celebrated in our county as the 40th consecutive year, with assistance from the Santa Barbara Superior Court and the Constitutional Rights Foundation.
During Mock Trials, students portray each of the principal characters, including the defendant, counsel, witnesses, court clerk, and bailiff in a case of Robbery and Battery, featuring a pretrial argument on the 4th Amendment.
Congrats to the whole team on a great season and to the following award winners! We are so proud of this group of students.

Thank you to Teacher Coach Jessica Tyler who has led this program for seven years. We appreciate the time and expertise they share while providing students with a memorable and unique introduction to the legal system.

FIFTH GRADERS ZOOM WITH STAR ATHLETE ADRIENNE SMITH
This week, fifth grade students Zoomed with women’s pro football player Adrienne Smith as part of their “athletes for social change” unit. After watching her talk at TEDx Laguna Blanca School, fifth graders realized what a great connection she was to their unit on athletes who use their platforms to promote social change. Students asked Adrienne questions about women in sports, the causes she supports (women in sports, math education, and Heart of Gold which helps homeless mothers and children transition out of the shelter system and into permanent homes), and what she predicts about the future of women in football. "Adrienne was a kind and generous speaker," says Ms. Carney. "And the students enjoyed talking to a true pro!"

SIXTH GRADE CELEBRATES THE MARDI GRAS SEASON
Today, sixth grade French students enjoyed a Mardi Gras celebration and learned how this medieval tradition comes alive in France, Brazil, Italy, Belgium, and Louisiana. As Mardi Gras is about eating without any restrictions, the sixth grade class enjoyed crêpes and beignets, decorated masks, and danced to the French song Au Bal Masqué. They were particularly impressed by their pen pals in Nice, France who said they have a Carnaval with music, floats, and parades for 10 consecutive days!

YOUR INPUT IS APPRECIATED
A note from Sasha Drucker '24:
I am a second-year student in Laguna's Science Research Program (SRP). My project researches possible factors that negatively affect adolescent mental health. It would be incredibly helpful if you would complete this survey. Using the data collected, I will be able to get different perspectives and opinions on what can impact adolescent mental health. I will then analyze the responses to see what some of the most common factors may be according to our community. Thank you for your time!
This survey is open to all students, faculty, and parents in the Laguna community.

CELEBRATE WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH
A great way to celebrate and acknowledge Women’s History Month is by reading literature with meaningful and diverse representations of women. We are intentional with our choices to feature stories of women and girls of different ages, ethnicities, races, classes, historical moments, and passions.
While we only choose four books to introduce to our libraries, we have so many more stories for our students to explore. Just ask the librarian! We hope you can either check these stories out from our school libraries or purchase them and add them to your own library. Diversifying our libraries and literature is important when we are learning about the world we live in, where we come from, and the different people and cultures we will interact with.
Happy reading!

SAVE THE DATE FOR UPCOMING CHALLENGE SUCCESS TEEN MENTAL HEALTH WEBINAR
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19
4-5PM PST
The statistics regarding young people’s mental health continue to cause alarm. Anxiety is the most common and often the earliest issue to surface, and then becomes a risk factor for increasing problems throughout the teen years. The good news? We know what helps. Taking action to increase connection and actively focusing on certain cognitive and social skills make a big difference in preventing future struggles. Lynn Lyons will showcase an approach consisting of skills that move away from the all-too-common avoidant behaviors (and myths) that interfere with academic, social, and emotional growth.
This free event is hosted by Challenge Success and REACH Student Life Management. It will feature a presentation by licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist Lynn Lyons, as well as a conversation with Challenge Success Co-Founder Denise Pope, Ph.D. and high school students.
