The Message this Week

Preaching Text: John 21:1-19

Breakfast on the beach. In the most interesting post resurrection appearance of Jesus (in my opinion), the disciples are back in the boat but are not having any success catching fish. Jesus calls to them from the beach to drop their nets on the other side. The net fills with fish, but doesn't break. Then they bring the nets to shore where Jesus cooks the fish. Jesus offers abundance...but we are not always able to receive it. When our 'fishing' is unsuccessful and our nets are empty, how can we find this abundance?

God of abundance, You join us in the midst of our lives and reveal abundance that we aren't always able to see. Thank you! In Jesus' name, Amen.

WONDERING...

Real questions from real people to learn more about faith.

Please wear your name tag on Sundays to help Vicar John learn names! If you are in need of a new name tag, please contact Lisa Kanzler by this Friday, April 17.

  • When we feel weary or uncertain, renew our hope and draw us closer to your presence, that we may live as people of faith and love.
  • Open our hearts to the beauty around us and renew our commitment to care for the earth. Be with those who have suffered severe storms and tornadoes, and protect all impacted by flooding and climate change.
  • Grant wisdom, integrity, and compassion to world leaders. Guide them in paths of peace and truth, that all people may live in security.
  • Compassionate God, you know our personal fears. Hold us in your care and give us strength to face each day, trusting in you.
  • We lift our hearts in joy—grateful for good weather, for friends and family, for our communities, and for the companionship of pets. Help us to cherish these gifts and share your love with those around us.
  • We give thanks for the saints who have gone before us, whose lives continue to inspire and guide us. May we follow their example in faithfulness and love.

Creator God, receive these prayers and those we hold in the silence of our hearts. Trusting in your love and mercy, we place all things into your care. Amen

Death of any kind is one of the most difficult things anyone has to deal with. Even though Christians believe that we will all live together again in heaven’s peace, the thought of never seeing someone again, especially a close loved one can be almost unbearable. If death is something that you’re struggling with, be it the death of a child, parent, spouse, friend, co-worker, etc., please reach out to Pastor Trudy so that she can talk to you about meeting with a Stephen Minister. Through God’s loving grace the empathy and support that a Stephen Minister can offer will help you know that you are never alone in your grief. - Mary Ann Svach, GLC Stephen Minister

The pink tulips delivered to my door yesterday by Julie Slifka are just so beautiful. I'm sure the altar looked heavenly on Easter Sunday with all the blooms! At our little church here at Carriage Oaks our piano was not available due to reconstruction but we sang "Jesus Christ has Risen Today" acapella!!! And do you know what? It still sounded joyous and triumphant!!! Thank you, Marian Morrison
