For the promise that he would inherit the world did not come to Abraham or to his descendants through the law but through the righteousness of faith. (Romans 4:13)
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” That fifty year axiom has been uttered by most Americans at one point or another. It was certainly an argument of those in the days of Paul who were
leaning heavily on the tradition of the faith that raised them. Their thought? “If Abe was justified by his works, then that’s good enough for us too.” At least they hoped that was good enough. Paul, having been literally blindsided by grace, quips back, “If it could be better, it’s as good as broken.” He says, “We’ve got a new promise worth putting our hopes in.”

News and A Look At What's Coming Up

My dear friends,
Are you familiar with the daily meditations from the Center for Action and Contemplation? Several recent meditations authored by Fr. Richard Rohr seemed to be straight out of the playbook for what I was needing. Perhaps, this will resonate with you.
Immediately after the temptation in the desert, Jesus goes out to Galilee and there he begins to preach. His initial preaching is summed up in the verse, “Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand” “Repent” (or metanoia in Greek) means to turn around, to change. The first word that comes out of Jesus’ mouth is change—be willing to change.
And another:
We have been caught off guard, ambushed. When we are lulled into believing we are in control and everything is going great, we lose sight of God. God has gotten our attention. Consider this a divine ambush.
This has been a week of compartmentalizing my feelings. Grieving juxtaposed with hopefulness. With God-given certitude, We Are Moving Forward. Let me illustrate this sense of Moving Forward. The Executive Board met Tuesday and remains in solidarity with the Unified Plan. Is future discernment needed? Yes and We Are Moving Forward.

Monday, March 20, Large Conference Room

Grief is universal. It is as unavoidable as death itself (and taxes). We hear about the stages of
grief and do our best to support others who express their grief in their own unique ways. However, we often struggle to name grief as having significant impact on our mental health or outward behaviors. Can we define grief in a way that creates greater self-awareness of our own expressed (or unexpressed) grief and that of others? Walk with this evening’s partners who speak to the palpability of the grieving process and a healthy way to find a path forward.
